I would like to have some beefy brake hardware out front. I know that RA65 stuff bolts up, but I want something better, chunkier. What could I use to grind me to a halt quick smart?

you might want to look into doing the hilux/peugot/xt130 swap. and i expect that using these struts will give you neg camber whic is never a bad thing. you may have to use the associated steering arms with it though
hello
If you really wanted big brakes I can't see why a Nissan 4 piston setup of say a Z32 with 280x30mm discs couldn't be adapted.
If in doubt power out
MA61 hubs and brakes are a direct fit on RT142 struts, so by extension any of the brake upgrades developed for the MA61 (and there are quite a few of them now) will work on an RT142.

...assuming the caliper mount is suitably located to clear the suspension/steering components.
The caliper mount doesn't need to be changed so this isn't an issue.

Far out! No problems stopping now.

Don't know about that norbs....Originally Posted by Norbie
Charles and I have had a look at a set of RT142 struts and the calliper bolt spacing was not the same as xA6x, so it wouldn't fit the Z32/R3x stuff either!...
There is a thread where thechuckster has a pic showing the camber differences between an RT142 strut and a MA61 one, and he also mentions the difference....

Well I've personally witnessed A6 brakes bolting up to ST141 struts with zero mods required. Perhaps RT142 struts are different then?

RT142 struts are different to ST141s and also to XT130s. They all have slightly different spacings.
The XT130 is 90 or 95mm btw.

Woah, how wierd is it that RT142 front struts are different to RA65, when the rear IRS is the same!
Because, the RT142 didn't all come with IRS, um like mine hence its rear suspension steup isn't always the same
If in doubt power out
Could be an early/late model thing. Did they do any re-releases of the Corona in that time?

OK then, it's safe to say that some versions of the xT14x Corona have struts compatible with xA6x Celica/Supra's, WRT hubs and brakes. Just guessing here, but methinks it would be a straightforward matter to swap struts between different versions of the xT14x Corona to facilitate an easy brake upgrade.

Yah strange eh!
As you say, easy enuf to swap struts

How wierd! I've found Toyota stuff is very much interchangeable and a difference between two cars that are so similar is very surprising. Note that the brake rotors on ST141/RT142 are the same part, as are the brake pads.
My RT142 is one of the very first produced (1984 model, chassis number is RT1420000xxx!!!) so I'll be interested to see what the differences are. Salisbury wrecking have about half a dozen different ST141s and RT142s at the moment - some with and without rear discs, some live axle and one IRS (first IRS one I've ever seen in the flesh!).
If I can find a set of verniers I will do some measurements to see if I can work out exactly which models differ and how.
Please do.![]()

Hey d-master,
I have a RT142 with a 1G-GTE(Gen 3), I have the MA61 front brake upgrade, with standard brake booster.
And I would have to say compared to the standard brake setup she pulls up very well, and I am not sure if I will upgrade the fronts any more. All depends on how much power I want to get out of it, with 155rwkw atm the brakes are more than sufficient.
MA61/RA65 upgrade is very cost effective to do as well.
Took me a little while to get mags to fit with MA61 brakes as well with even bigger brakes wheels could be a hastle but, I suppose that is what spacers are for then.
Hope this helps
Cheers for letting me know about your experience Mr Multivalve. I've got R32 Skyline calipers at work so I'll pick em up for cheaps. All I need is discs and some modifications as mentioned by CrUZida's thread.
Another thing, I checked whether the Skyline brakes fit on the Corona struts and they do. This was a 84 model with discs on the rear, no IRS.
