Hey Guys, Girls and Bubbles.
The time has come where i have to decide on a few things to help begin the end or the parts collecting for this longwinded convo.
I need some nice new coils, 1 per cylinder to suit my Autronic SM2 engine management system couple with Autronics fine CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) unit running my turbo 4A...
I have been looking at bosch ones so far, the common and one of the better
I have these part #'s so far. Bosch Coils - MEC717
MEC718
Have also been speaking to Austalias own M&W Ignitions and they feel their Ferrite cored coils are best, but these are apparently restickered Bosch tems. Does anyone know what these ones are?
Throw some more names and part #'s at me and reasons why you think they are the goods.
Thanks guys,
Jeremy
do you want coil on plug or remote coil?
remote coil, why not go for LS1 V8 ones.
coil on plug i have a set of nissan saliva coils that seem to fit pretty well, i'll see if i can grab them from my mate's place and give yo ua look.
oh yeah, forgot you were running a turbo,
run wasted spark, it whould give you a bit more power. cool1 asked these same questions (well totally differ3ent actually, his related to CDI) do a search.
EDIT:
just read you are running CDI too, what do autronic suggest you use? i
I Use cut down 1mz V6 camry on each plug in the rally car (86kw) and they work great!
just a note that if you do want ls1 coils go to www.gmpartsdirect.com as they are $50 each rather than $135 each in australia.
Im using a set of SR20DET coils, which may or may not work so well. Especially since they have a bit of a rep for failure. But they fit like a glove. Pics later.

Yer thanks Takai,
I have heard that the old SR20 coil on plug coils are not too bad....So the fit like i glove in the cam valley and all?
Aftermarket coils to suit this engine are readily avaliable which have a better rep for not failing.
Look forward to pics.
Thanks,
Jeremy
If it's CDI, go for four of the Crane LX92 cdi coils... They'll push just a weeeeeeeeee bit more power than the bosch coil your talking about.

For an easy fit, xJZ coils. With a CDI, maybe you could try what Motec usually suggest and run the Mercury marine ones. Thing is, what kind of boost/revs are you planning to give it anyway?
The maximum boost will be 25psi.
Keep em coming guys,
thanks,
Jeremy
The coil you need is a bosch HEC 716 much better spark than the bosch MEC coils .
Trevor
Yeah, the HEC716s are quite cheap too, about $35-40 each on trade. I have a set of 4 for when the SR20 coils fail.

the big reason nissan coils fail is the stupid plastic cover over their coils
on rbs and sr20s
if u do not cover them the heat wont build up and melt them
i have a dozen rb coils as spares and heaps of ignitors for when working on customers cars
at 25 psi most coils wil be fine especially with cdi
the hecs are yr std bosch transistor type looking coil
Shane I am still using the ze coils on mine but always use the hec716 on any single coil ignition .
Trevor
Might have to look at getting some for my car.
