Default Electric fuel pump - RA40 hatch 18RG - saftey cut

    Hi all,

Have spent quiet a bit of time trying various relays and circuits to get some kind
of safety cut out working on solex/18rg . so far have been unsuccessful. ( i accidentally
    blew the regulator yesterday )

I have tried the thread below, however hatch backs don't use a oil pressure switch
otherwise that diagram would work fine.

    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7462

    Edit:

Thanks to everybody who sent some suggestions, I have found the LPG safety cut the
most compatible. a schematic for wiring one up is below. I have just finished wiring it up
and works well. And thanks to wayne for mentioning the pump check.
Drawing was made big to be printable.

    cheers.

Use the fuel pump relay out of a VL V8 Commodore (I think .... ?) - they sense the ignition pulses and so turn on the fuel pump. Nothing else needed.

Thanks for that, "the simple things in life are often the best"
will visit wreckers in few days (while i get new regulator). once I get it sorted
I'll put up I diagram of it. theres lots of people out there running pumps off the ignition
with no cut out ... hopefully this'll help

    cheers.

    Hope this helps

Thanks bluewire that was a great help, one step closer to sorting it out.

    this is what I did

    relay 1 - narva 30amp 5pin

87 - start feed (ST1 on ig barrel) (think is 87A not specified on the relay itself)
86 - ig feed (from ig barrel)
    87 - to pin 30 on relay 2
85 - so far to nothing - empty pin
30 - so far to nothing - empty pin

relay 2 - 4 pin - as you mentioned above

    86 - to 87 on Relay 1
    86 - gnd
    30 - batt +
87 - pump and temporary test light

with IG on and engine not running pump is off and is test light.
cranking engine test light comes on and pump is running
after engine is running the test light goes out, pump not running, so i need to find a 12V
supply only when engine is running. so perhaps tapping into one of the alternator outs
will keep the pump running ...

    cheers

The VK EFI 6 cylinder has the same relay also.

Its called a tachometric relay (gas conversion companies may also stock them). They do cost around $100 or something brand new..so best to find one in a wrecker.

I think XF falcons with efi also use them. They are like a taller version of a standard relay with 2 extra pins. Or as suggested, go to a LPG installer and get a tachometric relay.

or you wire it up so no oil pressure = no fuel pump.

Can anyone shed some light on the pinouts of the VK tachometric relay? Some are easy and just the same as a normal relay. But there are a few extra ones I'm not sure about.

Oh and they are very easy to find. A walk round pick-a-part netted me two. They look like a tall relay with two small extra pins in the base.

    hi there,
OC - was at a wreckers today looking at volvos , looked at some 740's and gave up on
them, i think they must make the dash then build the whole car around it, buggers to get into.

Hen, cant help with commodore tachy relays but if your stuck, try the schematic i added
above in the first post ....

    cheers.

you can also use a lpg module to cut out the fuel pump if the engine stalls. This is the same setup i wired up on all the aussie legend race cars. it works really well.
