Factory 7psi
Do I really need a blow off valve?
Car has 140 000kms. Changed turbo 10 000kms ago. The factory Ihi ball bearing turbo died. The bearing collapsed and the blades grinded the housing.
It happened the same time when I removed the blow off valve. Im worried the death of that turbo was caused by me removing the BOV.
Now with the new custom turbo I dont want the BOV for defect purposes. Too lazy to source plumb back setup or original setup.
So my question is can I run the car without one ? Will it damage my turbo?
the BOV is a relief mechanism for the excess pressure inside the pipes when the throttle closes.. that plus it prevents pressure from damaging the turbo.. so yea u definitely need one... at least the stock setup if the new turbo isn't considerably bigger than the stock turbo
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
i wouldnt agree,
i had a stockish 1st 3sgte motor in my old celica, with highflowed turbo running 10 psi daily without a BOV and never had a problem, also the motor never came with a stock BOV,
what motor is this? if it did though come from factory with a stock BOV, i would recomend to stop being lazy and source it... im sure its not hard.
What is autosalon? Sounds kinda homo.

yeah factory 2001 Sportivo. When I bought it they had the turbo XS vent to atmo one. I might pop down toyota and see how its setup and buy it. Someone did give me a supplementary parts manual for it
AE112R . 110 made . mines 103 out of 110. Came with a factory IHI Ball bearing turbo. Small but spooled up quick. Died around 130 000kms. COuld be previous owner didnt change oil reguarly. I do mine every 5000kms.
okay, AE112. I'm almost certain the 2zzge didn't come out with an option for turbo though. The compression on those things is 11.5:1

these, nice cars, yes i would recomend tracking the factory one down, try genuine toyota, or simply go down to repco and buy a bosch plumb back and use that...
out of interest how do these go ?

for the money I'd buy a newer sportivo. 6-speed box, leather, awesome fuel economy and the VVTL-i goes nuts over 6000rpm.Originally Posted by Jorrs
nice car though...

The corolla goes alright. Beautiful smooth midrange torque.
Good on fuel too.
Comes with factory Oil Cooler
Factory Front mount IC
Factory Oil/Air Seperator
Honestly not a bad car.
Why not get one of those GFB 'Stealth' BOV's? They have 2 modes, one is silent mode and one is loud mode.Originally Posted by mr2lover

im just worried about a police officer opening up the engine bay and expecting to see a stock black non vent to atmo one.
Well, why not go to Toyota spare parts and get a plumb back? If you are that worried about being defected, then ensure you CAN'T be defected.Originally Posted by mr2lover

I know of at least 1, 2ZZ-GTE sportivo, there are rumours of a couple more floating around.Originally Posted by Jorrs
Highly unlikely that removing the BOV caused the death of your turbo, especially at low stock boost like that. Plenty of cars don't have factory BOV's.
That said though, if it's factory fitted, I'd probably stick another one in anyway. Buy a standard Bosch plumback BOV, they are dirt cheap.
Toyota-less for the first time in 10 years
modded, not factory. right?Originally Posted by Blue_Stivo
