G'day guys,
The stocker, 21-year-old GZE in my '86 AW11 has a few various little noises in the engine bay, forming a micro-symphony to suggest that the light from GZE heaven is being cast down on it.
I'll be taking it to a pro to try and diagnose the worrying noises, but, in the meantime, I'm beginning to examine the mid- to long-term option of getting a MAP twin-coil GZE front cut from an AE101 and doin' the ol' transplant.
Is this worth it? I'd seriously consider running it with a MicroTech LT10.
Will the AE101 GZE 'bolt right on' to the E51?
Thankyou.
(I apologise if this has been asked before. I did a search but there either wasn't anything on the topic or I am completely inept at handling the search function.)
Cheers,
Dylan

the later smallport does put out more power in stock form. but weigh up the cost of buying the later gze, installation costs (if you wont be doing it yourself).. compared to the cost of rebuilding the good ol donk that's in it now that once rebuilt will be more relieable than a 2nd hand import engine with a unknown history.Originally Posted by slipstream

wishing i lived in nsw so i could give gun and drifty some decent competitions......
i have seen some cheap engine rebuilds and alot fo the times
a new rebuilt is not as good as a 2nd hand one
so make sure u use a decent engine builder
or do it yourself....
Thanks for your words, Mick.
It would come down to:
- Fully rebuild current GZE, including ancillaries, belts, injectors, etc (to an effectively 'brand new' state), OR
- Low mileage AE101 GZE, hopefully in good condition
