Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone knows anything about any differences between these calipers. I've never had them side-by-side so don't know if there are any differences (eg. if the later RA65 items are revised over the earlier RA60 ones, or if the MA61 items are bigger). From memory they all run the same pad.
Can anyone help?
Failing that I'll go wrecker bashing but a starting point would be good.

mate i belive the ma61 calliper is a bit bigger. i think the disc may even be a bit bigger? i cant log onto DBA site to confirm as my flash isnt up to date.
From memory all the celicas are the same in the 60" shape.
what do you want them for? they're an old cast calliper, youre better off spending $300 and getting yourself a set of nissan 4 pots - theyre also a lighter!
From memory there are slight differences in the early RA60 calipers compared to the later Celica and Supra stuff, but there's not much in it. Probably wouldn't make any difference for the purposes of a conversion, if that's what you have in mind.

For my RT142 Corona. Thanks for the input, but $300 for Nissan 4 pots that probably involve a change of mounts, discs, and wheels adding up to thousands of dollars... or $30 for a set of xA6x calipers/rotors/pads from a wrecker that I know bolt straight on, clear my wheels, and provide a reasonable upgrade in performance for an hour's work and no other cost than a $7 bottle of brake fluid.what do you want them for? they're an old cast calliper, youre better off spending $300 and getting yourself a set of nissan 4 pots - theyre also a lighter!
I've already got RA60 (maybe RA65?) calipers on there and want to rekit them, I was just thinking I might get a second set so that the car isn't off the road. From memory there are slight differences in the early RA60 calipers compared to the later Celica and Supra stuff, but there's not much in it. Thanks mr bendix for making your catalog so online
I wouldn't take it as gospel tho, as toyota like to do strange things, for no better reason other than "because we can"
I put the ones that take a DB265 pad, simply because there are a few aftermarket suppliers off the shelf, I've had greenstuff, oem, bendix metalkings, bendix advance atm.

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
I would have thought the RT142 would have been identical?
The RA65/MA61 is 258x20mm
The MX73 is 248x22mm
I would have thought that the RT142 would have been one of the two?
What size is the current disc?
Unless its less than 240mm you won't feel much of an improvement from the larger disc.
Coronas got the non vented fronts due to local content tax breaks. And because coronas were even looked down apon by toyota
You are right cruzida, when i put ra60 calipers and discs on my corona, it felt much the same. But knowing you have a few more stops up your sleeve, and the ability to drive downhill fully loaded. You can fit a fair bit of junk into a RT142 wagon

RA6x brakes definitely are a worthwhile improvement, and since it's a direct bolt-on, why wouldn't you?

Just a note MA61 Calipers well mine anyway can only use the DB387 Pads
If in doubt power out
Pretty sure I used DB265 in mine. Going by the pics above they seem to be identical apart from the metal tab thing on the DB387's - WTF is that anyway?

Thats the pad wear indicator, DB265 don't fit as the tab on the back of the pads that the slides goes over is a bees dick too small, and the slides just fall off it.Originally Posted by Norbie
The DB387's one is just a tad bigger and it fits perfectly, aparts from that and the pad wear indicator they are identical.
I was also sold DB281 which had no fucking hope in hell of fitting. I thus ordered the rest of the catalogue for MA61 pads and found the DB387 to be perfect, I'm running Ferodo's atm.![]()

When I can get my furgin phone to connect to my computer (currently locks up as soon as I plug it in) I'll be able to put up pics of the RT142 and RA60 calipers side by side. You will be disturbed... the RT142 calipers are half the size and the pads are also half the size. Discs are only slightly smaller in diameter but they are vented which is of good advantage.
I noticed a good upgrade in stopping force, which makes sense for such a large increase in pad-to-rotor contact. Admittedly my conversion was done because my existing brakes were in pretty sad order so that may accentuate it a bit, but hey common sense rules and so does seat-of-the-pants.
If I can figure out where I put/left the things I actually remembered I have a set of MA61 calipers laying about, I'll go and see what I can find.

I learned that with my MA71. You use about half the pad and the thing starts squealing because the metal tab is scraping on your disc... I just snapped the fucker off and went merrily on my way.Thats the pad wear indicator
If you were Joe Public you would take your car to Toyota and spend $180 on Toyota genuine pads, $600 on Toyota genuine rotors, $100 for them to clean your calipers (read: spray with 80c worth of degreaser), $25 for Toyota brake fluid, and $200 in labour to fit the whole lot.... all when nothing was wrong![]()

Out of curiousity, those with xT14x Corona's who have the povo spec solid brakes, did you have the solid rear end, or the IRS setup?
All the xt14x coronas I've seen had solid discs up front.
My RT142 wagon with 5 link live axle had solid discs up front.

I've had a live axle manual ST141 sedan with pov brakes, live axle manual RT142 sedan with pov brakes, live axle auto RT142 wagon with pov brakes.
I've never seen a xT14x with anything other than the small caliper/solid disc arrangement, excepting the ones I've upgraded![]()
