I have been running a VZV21 narrow bodied camry on LPG for 15000 km so far. Oil is like honey after changing each 5000 and the car runs like a dream.
I got an opportunity to use it as a tow car again yesterday since LPG conversion and if any know the Muntham Hills out of Casterton to Coleraine I towed two 280ZX in turn on my tandem all up tow weight 1900 kg and compared LPG and ULP by switching over. The LPG had the edge on the ULP and the car stayed cool and towed the weight up an 80 k grandient twice yesterday in 2nd ratio at 80kph/4000 rpm. On the flat on LPG 100 kph in overdrive without it changing back, power in reserve. I Did over 120km in two trips and used 1/2 tank LPG (25 litres) at a cost of $12.50
I have an electrical book and intend buying another VZV converting it to a 153 gearbox and running manual.
450 km per 50 litre lpg tank for $30.00.
Toyota said it could not be done, and yet are offering conversions to wide bodied 3VZ engine as part of the rebate scheme.

Hey, nice work there! I'd love to see how this thing was converted to LPG!
Systems wise, the 3VZ isn't at all much different to the 2VZ, so i'm not sure why Toyota would say it couldn't be done. Maybe they thought it was too old an engine to worry about making systems for...not too many floating around these days.
So you didnt notice any power losses using LPG over ULP?? Thats quite interesting.
Would you be able to take some shots of the bay?

rt104gt, given its an old vzv i take it you're running a draw thru LPG setup?
if you got a fuel injected LPG setup it would be even better still.
they're putting alot of the new hiluxes on injected LPG with awesome results...
Yeah, my neighbour's a courier and has an LPG injected Hilux. He's done 190,000km in eighteen months with no major issues.Originally Posted by Grega

yeah and you'll find he gets almost the same economy and power on LPG as he does on petrol...
That's right. The system was dealer fitted when he bought it new. He's very happy with it.Originally Posted by Grega

yep.
the new LPG systems include a piggyback computer in which its purpose is to control the LPG injectors only. the rest of the engine management is taken care of by the factory ECU
they're not a bad setup.
last one i saw done by my mate was a ford v8 ute. 153rwkw on petrol. 151rwkw on LPG
economy = same.
Plenty of people will always tell you it can't be done. When they do, move along to someone else.
Who is the company doing that thanks?Originally Posted by Grega

The only tick was finding the correct connections to turn off the banks of fuel injectors, the wriing in them cars is pretty vague.
