Man you gotta be kidding, I gave my dad my gf's celica and his taken over 1/2 year to just replace a gearbox and respray the car.
The funny thing is, this gearbox is stuffed up too, it makes an extremely loud thump when it goes into "D", and the OD light continuously flashes, i.e. it's in limp mode. What a farken joke.
NEVER mix business with family, it's just farked... I'm so pee'd off. I just didn't have the time to do it myself as I got a full-time job, and still working a 2nd job.
Well it's a Celica ST184R Automatic Gen II, he popped in a 1994 2.2L Camry gearbox and it's giving me a headache.
I just picked up the car like 1 hour ago, and now I'm so frustrated.
Any ideas with compatibility problems? I've tried to search no luck.
so he's got a 5S-FE gearbox.. in a 3S-FE or 3S-GE engine? (when u say gen 2, i assume it's a GE?)
did u swap the gearbox ECU as well? (i can't remember if there is or not).. and did ur dad actually install it correctly, hook everything up, top up enough oil etc etc??
just to make a start to solve ur problem![]()
and yea u shouldve taken it to a mechanic, not family members or family friends..lesson learned..
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
An aussie ST184 will have a 5S-FE, same as the Camry in question.
yup 5S-FE, rubbish motor... I can't figure it out..
my old box didn't have a kick down cable, but the Camry box has one, which his retro-fitted to throttle.
I don't understand why the O/D keeps coming on although I've checked all of the connections, it's just stuck in limp mode.....
I'm having concerns that the box is stuffed.
Im pretty sure the clunking into 'D' is the box itself and probably the belts being worn. My mates vn does it bad - as in you have to rev it a touch before it clunks into drive.
