Hey ahh this may have been covered a million times so i'll be brief.
I own an 86 rona with a 22re, am buying an ST185 3SGTE half-cut.
i've got heaps of 2S stuff laying around.
Can i run stock planum, turbo mount and top intercooler and still be able to close my hood?
No. Hood wont close unless you keep the engine on the original 20 odd degree slant. Even then I dont know how you'd go.

just chop it down and get someone to tig it back together. and do you mean leave the top intercooler at the top?
I found it isn't that simple.. The runners are not straight, so if you chop say 2 inches out, there is no way to weld it back together as they no longer meet.

lol, like ur name "22abcdre".
Is cutting the bonnet out of the question? Im not sure of the legalities of it, but id say it would be worth it.

Custom plenum as well - + custom exhaust manifold id believe !
is your 2s stuff suited to a W series gearbox ?

hmm ok thanks guys, I think i'll just go with the 1GGTE conversion on it. the 3S would be great as its a light 4 banger with roughly the same power, but im not looking customising the plenum or the hood for that matterso yeah but thanks anyway, better to find out here than the hard way.
OK thanks, SSS automotive have the engine, 5sp, comp and loom for $1300!! but they're 12hours drive!... looks like its lots of energy drinks, dads trailer and away i go.
Which motor is that for $1300?? the 1GGTE?? I would say hang the expense, learn how to tig weld, make a custom plenum and enjoy the benefits of the 3SGTE.

about the drainige problems there would be none theres been more then plenty of people who have done a fwd to rwd convo and never had a problem from a range of car makes example 20v rwd,16v lancia rwd,sr20 rwd
Just ask Joel (TurboRA28), he has no oil drainage issues, and has RWD 3SGTE without the factory slant.

SOLD : 1GGTE Rt142 Corona - Twin TD04-9b turbos - 180rwkw = 13.1 @105mph
NOW: 2006 BF XR6 Turbo Falcon: 6 speed auto, Hybrid Intercooler kit = 236rwkw @ 8psi, ALSO......LIQUID LPG
I've found no real drainage issues.. Though the gen3 head does have larger drain holes which may help slightly.
Only once at a circuit track day I had a problem where at some stage a certain amount of oil must have got stuck up in the rocker cover and some of it got pushed out of the breather into the catch can, but we are only talking 50ml or so of oil.
Thats the worst i've had anyway..

We have had problems 3 times with the race car, once we modded the head and the sump and pick up, all is well.It was a gen1 3sgte, the gen 3 3sgte have bigger drain holes as Turbo RA 28 mentioned.
If you have high g's in the corner these mods have to be done or No 1 big end suffers with oil starvation.
I also added a few extra litres to the sump, for a few reasons, but one being that if some oil does get stuck up in the head there will still be plenty in the sump so less chance of losing a bearing. Plus more oil, less chance of it getting too hot.
