MX83 grande's have them. i just went to test fit it to the W58 then but i lost the shaft out of the electronic assembly.

another 2 GLX's i wrecked had cable driven speedo. i think the electronic speedo on the grande is for the ABS

Later version MX83s have a sensor that attaches to the speedo output drive, just like a speedo cable would, regardless of trim. This sensor is very compact and gives 4 pulses per revolution of sensor shaft. This speed sensor is for the instrument cluster - the ABS has a separate sensor on the extension housing.
GZ20s and probably MZ20s have a sensor that also attaches to the speedo output drive but is larger and gives 20 pulses per rev of sensor shaft.

On newer auto gearboxes, such as JZZ30s (and probably many others), there no longer is a speedo output drive - there is an assembly that combines the speedo drive with the speed sensor. It's effectively a large speed sensor with bearings, shafts, electronics and toothed wheel that is installed in the location of the speedo output drive.
This speed sensor assembly can be removed, and an output drive of a suitable gearbox can be installed in its place - don't quote me on this but from memory a W50 speedo output drive fitted a JZZ30 auto box.

An IS200 manual box also uses this type of speed sensor assembly and a W58 speedo output drive fits into one of those.

It would seem it's possible this speed sensor assembly will fit the W55/7/8 as well but you would probably have to trial this yourself.

yeah the 1uz one has the same liitle keyed shaft bit that a speedo cable has on it, they use the same size screw on fitting.

so you could probly swap/modify the wheel inside the unit to give diiferent readings?

    I'll measure up a FWD 4 AG 20 valve one , looks like it may fit a w57 , w40,50 have a small type drive and w 55,7,8 have a larger drive (about 35mm in diameter) JZA 80 w 58 has a 4 pulse speedo sensor on the g/box

Just thought id post this pic up as i had to take it to help someone else out the other day.
It is from a gz20 soarer (a340e auto) personally i didnt think it very very big, but perhaps there is a smaller one out there.
Either way, it is now fitted to my r154 and wired to the jza70ecu with perfect reuslts.
Its a direct fit to the r154, just unscrew from a340e and screw onto the speedo drive on the r154.

I can confirm the electronic speed sensor in a JZA80 W58 will fit in early W5x boxes, and vice-versa.

I'm beginning to think that any gbox with a standard slip yoke (as opposed to the 3 prong/donut rubber setup) has a screw on electronic sender.

    UZS131 has 20p/rev output too.

theoretically then, these electronic speedo outputs would be compatable with the VDO speedometers??? has anyone ever tried??

    300km/h.......muhuhahahaha

    Speedometer
VDO Speedometer for individual retrofitting of your car. Speed indicated in analog displays with trip distances and the total distance indicated via the LC display; display switched over using the adjustment button. Adjustable for pulses per units of distance travelled ranging from 500 to 400,000 pulses per kilometre or mile

From what I've seen so far I would agree.

Hmmm, I might have a closer look at the Getrag and see what that uses.

A 2JZ-GE JZZ30 slushbox (slip yoke) has a large speed sensor and not the screw on one. Without checking, I think it's the same sensor as the Aristo slushbox (donut). Unfortunately I can't remember what the single turbo 1JZ JZZ30 had for a speedo sensor... but if I had to take a stab I'd say it was the large one.

Cool - is it physically the same as the GZ20 or the MX83 or something different?
