    Hi,

No. It was given that name many many years ago by a WW2 aviation buff friend of mine. Apparently named after the Junkers Ju88 aircraft because it was so ubiquitous. And, so too, back in those heady days of my youth, the RA25 was just as ubiquitous.

It was used for racing around, city/weekly driving to work, taking the family on holidays, loading it up with shit for the garden or whatever, even went on a few fire trails in the forests around Canberra.

So, the many and varied things the car did made it particularly useful for the carriage of anything - and it did. So my friend starting saying the RA25 was as versatile as the Ju88, and kept just calling the car "The 88". Other friends in the group and the family starting calling it that, and that is how it got its name.

It's mostly now a garage queen. Her days of being the family car and doing the daily city grind are now long behind her. She only goes out to the Classic Celica cruise, NRMA MotorFest, ToyotaFest and Shannons Eastern Creek Classic.

Got her re-rego'd yesterday. She's done 376km since last rego.

I recommend you find another tuner other than SAS unless you want to pay for your car to be worse off than when it went in

    Just touching base NOV 2011
Lets see from NOV 1976 that makes the Corona 35 years in one owner.
Still in shed with new roof.
CH plated and can be driven 45 days
Going to POO day at end of this month.

New generation of petrol and rev heads to induct into how to care for old school TOYS (I really resent that term)

And HM TOYMOD cars have bit the dust while we have been arguing over who's is the better car.

And no not driving it to NSW ever (again)

243000 km still has notchy P51 and havent been to Weribee to buy the other one back.

Glad to see you got away from the alloys and went back to original.

At birdwood bay bash they reject modified classics.

As I found out so I am sandblasting and putting original GT wheels back on

    cheers

    Hi,

I got the originals in storage at home. Too skinny and the tryes are mostly rubbish for these smaller 13 inch rims.

Whacking on a phat set of old school rims with some sweet dish is the way to go for better handling and especially looks. Most events and shows will allow period mods, and these are even allowed under the Historic Vehicle classification by the RTA.

Also... didn't you put disc brakes on the rear of your car, which means despite how original the wheels are, the car is modded? And, if this is the case, what sort of event says you need full original wheels yet allow modded brakes?

In any event, a wheel change over from period phat cool rims to stock rims is a 10 minute job and easily done if needed.
