Thought id start a different thread as these will be a little different to the others and i will document the changes we are making to the stock units.
First up big thanks to Jase for dropping over so we could measure things up.
So far it all looks very good, very very good! We will need to cut off the top filler neck and put a bent remote filler in.To keep it neat after we cut the filler neck off i will turn it upside down so its not visible. This will allow us to have a total height of about 410mm which is enough to sit under the top rad support perfectly.
From there they will have a 90 bend for the bottom outlet that will trun 45 deg toward the outside edge of the core. The top one will just be straight but in the centre of the rad.
These will take an 11" fan and from our measurements so far it look like that should be able to be centered on the radiator perfectly.
Anyways I will get a prototype done in the coming weeks. If possible can I get a show of hands from the people who are keen as due to the amount of welding needed to get these right I would like to approach my welder with a set number to keep the costs down.
I am aiming to retail them at $550
cheers
Nath

will your 1jz one fit the same as a 1uz one?

I should probably clarify that.
will the 1jz + ra23 radiator do the same as a 1uz+ ra23 radiator would need to be?

hahah im still not understanding your question![]()
Anyways there is no difference in the core for either model so the only things that will change are the outlets and the position of the filler neck.
As for cooling,we will see whn we get one into jase's car but at nearly double the volume of the original im sure it will be an improvement.

1JZ rad is specifically designed to suit a 23/28/35 with a 1JZ, not a 1UZ... Not only are the outlet sizes and positions different, but the rad is designed to sit in a different position to what would be needed for a 1UZ in a 23/28/35...Originally Posted by stradlater

Nath, all your 23/28 rads I've seen so far have the core sitting on the engine side of the radiator support panel... ie: the side mounts are in line with the front edge of the radiator, and these bolt to the original bolt holes
Have you considered, or actually made a radiator that perhaps is a bit narrower, and has the side mounts in line with the back edge of the rad, meaning that the rad sits further forward and has more clearance with the engine?
Not sure how to explain it
Possibly the cores are only one width, and this is too wide to fit in the cutout?
Yeah the current ones and the ones designed previously for 22/28's have always been skinny enough to squeeze through the gap, but due to the U shape of the mounting wings you have to slide it down between the 2 side supports and then use spacers to space it toward the front of the car.Originally Posted by timbosaurus
With the 1J ones the bigger mounting wings will actually sit on the engine bay side of the car and the body of the rad will be under the top support.
I think if we can gt it all looking neat it will become the preferred way to mount the rads in the old girls with some of the bigger engines from 1G to 1UZ and 1J As even with a 52mm thick core from what I saw with jases car there will be more clearance than an excel rad or shortened stocker.
Just waiting on professional L shaped filler necks and 45 deg bends and we should be able to knock over a prototype.

My hand is up for one.
Most certainly![]()
Yes hands up here. Just as long as it accommodates the stock alternator position nicely. I'm also very keen to get my hands on one asap seeing my motor just got bolted in last night.
Just to confirm on all that will there be mounting wings on the front and back of the radiator to mount it in the users desired position and location towards or away from the front of the motor?
Regards
Brad
Nath, obviously, still really keen on this, and we'll test for over heating with some stock wheels i have here
Let us know when you wanna test fit the first one and i'll make time to swing by!
Cheers,
Jase
Yes yes...need a radiator asap. My warranty on my motor starts in two weeks though thats probably being a little ambitious :S
Yep hang tight boys still waiting on the filler necks. Unfortunately I will only be able to get 3 made up with this batch as I have only 3 cores left to suit them.I dont want to accept payments untill the prototype is okay'd and wont sell anymore untill its given the thumbs up/down so you guys have the opportunity to put them in your car. If it is ok'd I would like to give preference to people who will have their cars ready the quickest,if your 7-8 weeks away from finishing just wait for the next batch.
Stidmond, they will accomodate for the stock alternator position nicely, hence the 45 degree bend for the bottom outlet. I really cant see why they wont be spot on but fook me ive been wrong before.
cheers

Well the filler necks are in! They are in 3 pieces which I didnt want but meh!
Anyways this is a pic of Chris's set up with the 1G but wth the rad mounted forward. Please not that the 1J ones wont have the filler neck at the top it will be all flat with the remote filler neck popping out on the left somewhere.
Clearance:
Top section
Now even with the top flat, the top rad support will have to be modified extensively or get yourself a flat piece of alloy or whatever and make your own up like in the pic.
Prices will be $530 plus shipping (approx $550 landed). I have 2 cores left after smokeys car is done.
cheers

When should we sort this Nath?
Im taking the car off the road on thursday/friday to start on the coil overs, trailing arms, tailshaft seal, passenger seat and a thorough service. So nows as good as ever! Alternatively, next weekend, i'll begin stripping the interior, so it could be done over that stretch...
Cheers,
Jase
