    The Rev,

Call the RTA in the morning to make sure but my Understanding is you should be able to drive it over for the Inspection. Just make sure you right yourself a note so if you get pulled over you can show the intent of the trip.

Once again tho, call the RTA first and check. I could be wrong.

    Hi,

Ahhh that's a bummer! Sorry to hear.

That's the risk you take buying something old and sight unseen.

Thats it im gonna get quotes on the rust repairs before i decided what to do, it drives so well though so smooth ! and the dash isnt even cracked ! insides almost like new, except for the sun damaged seats.

Be a shame to let her go to waist as its genuine 109,000km and the guy spent $1000 on a reco gearbox and new tyres

What do you all think ? Repairable?

    Hi,

New sills can be put in and that's not a major job.

As far as the rest is concerned, I'd be more worried about what you can't see. You'll need to pull the interiro of the doors and some internal trim to see how bad the rust is.

Mate all of that rust is just cosmetic. These things run a full chassis, and as long as that checks out rust free, the rest is just replacing some metal sheet. Good to see another Crown saved from the metal recyclers.

    cheers Chuck.

Yeah ive actually beenn thinking positive since i got to work about it, on monday and tuesday when im off ill rip the trims off and check out the insides of the doors, im suprised though, when MJH gave me a pink slip today that there is no rust around the rea wind screen along the bottom, as he told me is someimtes standard in these crowns.

All that rust is easily repairable Chris. Just do it in bits and pieces as time and money allows and just get it to a standard where you'll enjoy driving it. Even do it all yourself and paint it flat black and lower it and you'll have a great Rat Crown to cruise in.

thanks for the support lads, yep i think thats the plan, get the bad bits repaired first, just so i can get it regoed' then get it fixed up as i go ! The RT40 is the pride and joy, this ones just the play around for me to tinker with lol ! As long as i can get a blueslip, what rust do you think needs repairing first for a blueslip ? as i thought as long as its not structual it should be ok ?

    Hi,

Your car is going onto historics, so just get a pink slip.

That's what I did for the car I brought up from Melbourne. The documentation on the NSW RTA site regarding historic vehicles only mentions pink slips, so that's what I went for, and I got the slip and got the plates.

    Chris,

The body, wheels tyres and interior are all as they should be for an MS85 and I cant see a late model Stereo hacked into the dash so all I really need is a pic of the engine bay and I am happy to ok the Car for Historic Rego.

For the Rust repairs you can get a price from the guy who did the full respray on my wagon and just did some work on the 28 for me. He is an old scholl panel beater and works with his Son, his workshop in St Mary's and he does good work for a fair price.
