Default possible to restrict number of posts?

just a thought, would it be possible to restrict posting in certain sections to one post per person per day, with the current software?

perhaps if whoring was restricted in this way, some people might start posting about car things instead, or heaven forbid, actually post things they have done in the tech section
or it might cause them to think twice about what they are posting....

it seems like a certain section is becoming more and more abused due to people simply being bored, and not taking that as an opportunity to think/talk about/work on cars instead.

I realise that toymods forum should also encourage the social aspect, but restricting the extent of whoring might be worth looking at..

or perhaps just "raising the bar" a little...

How many posts have you made in the last couple of days? It seems like you have a comeback for anyone.

so you think this thread was a useless post too?

i understand whats being said however, but 'education' would be a better technique rather than restricting forum members.

I don't see what the big deal is OC. Yes it is a technically orientated forum, but is that the only reason that people should come here? The forum has been split into sections and people have the choice to post wherever they want about whatever they want (within some guidelines).

It's always nice to get on and have a rant about something that happened to you, ask for non car related advice etc and have a laugh (God forbid on a technical forum!). I don't see why you would need to restrict people in what they want to do on a public forum where alot have paid memberships for use of the forums services

dimmy, i guess it is the split that has occurred.

there are people who mostly just post in tech/general and those that post everywhere..
and then there are those that almost exclusively post shite in non-car discussion, and appear to not want to contribute anything positive.

GBC, what kind of education are you suggesting?

perhaps there could be a "cost" of rep to post in the non-car areas.. ie X number of posts = Y number of rep points removed

the danger is always that those posting shite will move to the useful areas and make them crap also.
in that way, the current system works, as they rarely seem to venture to the useful sections of the forum anyway
maybe it doesn't need to be changed?

i dont think much needs to be changed. except maybe to periodically delete old topics in the spam sections. Keeping old posts in the technical sections would be good, as they contain useful information which people can search for, but the spam sections do not contain important information. Would deleting these older off-topic threads free up a lot of space?

There is only so much the board members can do to 'police' it, you're not going to be banning people just because they aren't technically minded. They might ask a question every couple of months, get a response and not post in the tech section for a few more months while they wrap their head around the concept or try out what was suggested. I don't post in the tech section unless I know I can help, i won't pretend to know the answers.

The posts in off topic don't count towards the number of posts already, and you don't have your user rank change either As for restricting rep in off topic i don't think that's a good idea. Someone might give out good advice or info for non car related issues

OC: I post probably most of the time in the non tech area, The "Non car discussion area" as such.
But hell, I am in the General Car, and technical area ALOT, just reading.
I don't have questions to ask, and alot of what is asked in some of those threads, I don't know, and as such I just read. And learn.

As such, take away my ability to "socialise" in the other areas, I won't be around reading the tech, and won't be giving help if/when I can...

What you see as people being "active" in, may not quite be a true representation...

Surely it would be easier to just lock particular users out of particular sections all together (eg. Non Car Discussion since that's what this seems to be about) if they can't stop themselves from posting continuous drivel that is not of benefit to said forum section?

If they were to carry on the same behaviour in other sections (eg. General Car Talk or Technical) then they'll definitely get smashed to bits much sooner as these are the more heavily moderated areas of the forums (and rightly so).
    Cheers,
    Paul.

    Hi,

Locking out certain users from particular sections of the forums would become an administrative nightmare.

The Non-car area is more free-flowing and has less moderation because a lot of it is just touchy-feely stuff and opinions etc. Unlike the technical areas where something is a fact or not, and therefore easily sorted out. And yes, the technical areas are more heavily moderated.

While most of the dribble in the Non-car is unworthy of rep, there are some threads where people ask for help on PCs or audio and a range of other subjects, where the collective input of the forums can often offer a solution. I can see where giving rep could, in these examples, be beneficial.

The least moderated areas, which also have the most dribble, is the members rides threads. These are not really administered as these are more "private" (as in the thread is owned by the individual). However, we do get the occasional PM to go in and clean up some shit fight or crap within these threads. Still, if a members ride thread has anything extreme (either text or images) which are regarded as not in the interests of the Club, they will be removed.

In the end, if you find a thread or post offensive then report it. If you have a general dislike for a thread or section, and it is within the Clubs guidelines, then all you can do is ignore that thread and not go there. The Non-car area, by its very nature, is full of threads and posts that can offend - either through stupidity of the posts, or text/images that are posted.

Actually - now that you mention it River, self restraint is probably a much better and more common sense solution than introducing more administrative overhead.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

all fair points (from those not on ignore )
I was enquiring as to if it was easy. adding more administrative overhead is never a good idea.

I guess it comes down to how "family friendly" toymods intends to be? or not?

    Hi,

We can't admin all threads all the time, and we do depend upon the greater Toymods community to report any posts they find distasteful. From there we can go in and check it out.

If the post is offensive and is deleted, I always put in a post as to why it was deleted.

If a post was deemed okay, then I PM the person who reported the post of the decision and why.

    Family friendly?
So you're insinuating that these people that are posting in the non tech area are posting stuff that would violate the toymods guidelines?
Then why not straight out report it? Oh wait, it's just that everyone is sick and tired of you bitching about each and every persons post they make, and why everyone else is wrong and you're always right.

    please give an example?

are you referring to the somewhat humourous episodes recently where the same behaviour is posted in both WPMO and WMMH threads?

I'm sure there are forums around more appropriate for boasting about how many random chicks you bang

Everysingle thread you basically post in in the Non Car area.
IE: What happened to BTS and his missus etc. No matter HOW drunk a guy or girl is, you still know, no matter what they actually say, that one of the worlds DUMBEST things to do would be to touch someone elses partner.

    Just all your shit.

Other wise, list which people you think don't deserve the right to post more then once a day in this section. And why. Then evidence it too.
