Volvo engine don't suck ... but they're usually owned by dentists and single-child soccer-mums so not really considered a performance vehicle ... more of a strangely-powered brick.

    anyway ... OMG!

    '644nm @5250rpm' - very impressive torque

... and how on earth did you fit a TK600 in the KE70 transmission tunnel!

There's a 6 cylinder version of this engine family (family name: whiteblock as opposed to the older redblocks) that was used RWD in the volvo 960/S90/V90 series from 1990 on. Actually it was the first of the series, 4/5 cylinder versions in FWD volvos following a few years later.

So it's not surprising it's doable to convert them to RWD, although this conversion isn't even using a 960 M90 transmission which could have been a logical choice. But perhaps not for this power/torque level.

Note there's also a T6, sold in the volvo S80 with 272 factory hp. Actually pretty interesting car, one of very few TRANSVERSE inline sixes ! Though I wouldn't want one cos it's FWD

Impressive stuff, would be quite a ride .. And a 2 door KE70 one of my favorite small toyota's ..

How does it sound ? Does it have the scream of the old Audi Quattro's, they had to my ears a unique & impressive sound, also a 5 cylinder combination as well ..

Did you have to fully rebuild the internals or are they quite strong to start with ? Might be something worth looking at ?

Do you know what sort of power one can one get out of a stocker with slight mods, boost etc ..

    Regards ..

    Rob ..

Rob, check out volvo forums like turbobricks and such for that type of info.
The T5(R) is a commonly modded car and will make good power on stock internals.

stock engine with little bigger turbo like mitu T19 (v70R AWD) and max 1.3bar boost (bad standard rods) and uppgraded ECU aorund 330hp

my engine have forged JE- piston and H-beam rod more duration on camshafts and more mods but i have not drive on dyno yet!

my old engine (514whp) had standard internals only change to H-beam rods

Yes, but somehow that doesn't keep people from modding it

There's also the R AWD. Could have been sweet if it wasn't so damn heavy... then again, nothing you can't fix with MORE power

Love the sound of that motor as it Rev's out, it bring's back memories of the old Audi Quattro's sound ..

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but what car's run a TK600 gearbox ? .. Did you have to custom build a Bell housing, or is there one available ..

Man thats some impressive numbers for 2.3 litres ....

I have been looking & inquiring around here about picking up a s/hand 20 valve B5234T or even a B5254T later motor & they all seem to be as rare as rocking Horse Shit .. I'm not after anywhere near the numbers you are getting i just love the exhaust note & the different Factor .. I'm curious as to how hard are they to get over there ?..

    Regards ..

Just checking the trader, it looks like they're available, but not flooding the place. www.blocket.se is the Swedish trading post, and there are a few 2.3s

And only a couple of 2.5s
