    Default TA22 and 1GGTE

    Morning,

Has anyone done one of these conversions before thats on here?

I know of 2 TA22's that have done this, MORBST being one, the other was on autospeed - both a very very long time ago.

Just after some thoughts/comments around doing this and potential gotcha's on the way. I know the balancer has to be turned down to start with...

Grega, a mate of mine started this conversior 4 years ago. Still not completed. Two options, notch out the front tie bar under the radiator by 125mm, or move your firewall back by the same amount. The car WILL be front heavy.

    cheers Chuck.

Grega, the best advice I can give you, is use a small lightweight engine like a 4A-GE.
If you want grunt turbo the little sucker. A TA22 with a 160+kW 4A-GE turbo engine will be way better than a 1G-GTE nose heavy TA22.

I have previously fitted a 1G-GTE to an RA28, and a 1JZ-GTE into an RA23, both were a squeeze, but do able. But these engines are way too heavy for the short nose TA22, and that will be the biggest hassle weight over the nose.

MORBST Celica was only ever intended for straight line drags.

The money you save on not rebuilding your firewall, will go a fair way to building a tuff as 4A-GE.

    Cheers Chuck
