Does it shift manually? Torque converter lockup seem to be working ?
If it shifts OK manually, I'd think that the solenoids & clutches & bands & pump & fluid & whatever are OK and that "before he pulled it apart" is important for things that still might be unconnected or loose or not making contact because they are damaged or have been swapped/cross connected.
There's usually a weighted centrifugal force type governor valve and/or vacuum operated valve and/or a manual throttle 'kick-down' to control the automatic shifting. All the electronics - ECU Jr. & solenoid operated valves on yours do the same things, except that it might even be something with the TPS for all I know.

Its to do with the solenoids.

The box is in limp mode.

    D is OD
    2nd is 3rd Gear
    1st is 1st.
    Box wont shift by itsself.

This is exactly what it is. How do you go about getting that fixed? Is it a sensor problem?

did a diagnostic test and got code 51 which is switch signal

No "IDL" signal, "NSW" signal or "A/C" signal to ECU during diagnostic check

    http://www.supras.co.uk/resources/Mk...nginecodes.htm

tested it while it was in park n neutral and with A/C off... think it mite b the IDL signal.

    ne ideas???

    cheers
