Default MA61 1JZ conversion standard MA61 Fuel Pump

I have a MA61 with a 1JZGTE conversion, and its still got the standard fuel pump. Now the car hesitates in the topend sometimes, i guess this could be the cause of the hesitation as the fuel pump can't supply the pressure that the engine needs once really pushing hard...
Any comments or that sounds about right?

It could well be the fuel pump....

What I suggest is mouting a fuel pressure gauge to the rail so that you know for sure!

Or for total comfort simply change the pump to a walbro and feel safe!!!

    Cheers

I got a walbro going in once i get the 50 litres of fuel i put in all out- Bit of driving..
I guess when i put a fuel pressure gauge on just look for fluctuations in the pressure?? As there shouldn't be??

Fuel pressure should be a fixed value above manifold pressure at all times. From memory it's something like 35psi, but the important thing is it remains constant.

Yep, make sure that the fuel pressure doesn't drop under load (in fact when you are on boost it should be base pressure (~40pis) + the boost you are running, i.e. the fuel pressure should go up from ~40psi to ~50psi if you are on 10psi boost ).

    hey,

dont bother getting a fuel pressure gauge until you have installed the new pump and ruled that out as the problem. The gauges are expensive and a pita to use.

With my 1jz ma61 it was running piss lean on the stock fuel pump and also had a hesitation so its a good guess that its that

whatever you do dont boost it on the stock pump, when i had mine dynoed with the stock pump the AFR hit 17.5:1 before we stopped it and that was as it was coming on boost at 3k

    cheers

Dude, this thread is 2 years old - I have a feeling the question is no longer relevant.
