Default 8 day challenge- MX73 to JZX73 MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

The mission, which I have chosen to accept: combine this (1J powahz)

    with this (5M-GE powahz)

and have it up & running, with enough time to drive it from SA to Sydney in time for dyno day (yes, this upcoming dyno day!).

    Parts to be fitted are:
    engine- 1JZ-GTE,
    transmission,
    intercooler + associated pipe work,
    wiring,
    dash (tacho etc),
    ECU,
    tailshaft,
    diff (LSD),
    exhaust,
crossmember & steering rack (modded & reconditioned),
    suspension F&R,
stereo (non essential, but would be nice),
    fuel pump,
and perform the R33 caliper/BA falcon disc brake upgrade.

The white one I drove into the garage on sunday, about 11:30am, and as of 5pm yesterday is sitting out the front pretty much a shell with some interior. Unfortunately I didn't have access to a dgital camera, so I have no progress pics, but I will get a pic up of the empty shell later this week.

The grey one, which I purchased on a flying trip to Sydney last week along with the mags, and is arriving by truck this morning, will do the duties of getting me too & from work thur & fri day, sat & sun night, and serious work will begin sometime on monday, with the aid of a good friend flying over from Sydney.
I figure I can swap over the suspension, LSD, stereo and do the brakes (depending on when the calipers arrive, should be late this week) before monday, which will make things a bit easier for us.

So that will leave is monday arvo, tues, wed, thur & some of fri to remove the 5M-GE & install the 1J, intercooler & make heads or tails of the wiring, then leave fri night/early sat morning to drive to Sydney (ok, I'm also trying to make it to a party in Sydney on sat night ), and with any luck turn up at sometime on Dyno Day! Then almost more importantly, attend the WSID wednesday night drags the following week!

So what do you think, doable? Or am I dreaming?

do-able - 3 days of mechanical work, 1 day at the suspension shop, the other 4 to work out why the fuck the electrics aren't working. No sleep allowed.

end result will be a going car with a rats nest of wiring (aka Norbie's white nitemare) in the front passenger foot well...

Nah, you should be pretty fine. If you are worried about the wiring just transplant the main dash section over from the poo white one.

Hehe, at least you dont have to worry too much about the paint now, the new one at least looks half decent.

Ahhh, I didn't realise the white one you were wrecking was THAT one, haha.

Yeah man, easy as, if you just straight swap.

But if you decide to clean the motor/gbox, paint the bay, make it all look new, then you may be pushing it.

Yeah, nothing like a deadline to get you productive! And you've got help flying in, and you've posted your intentions here for all to see and remind you of, so you're feeling pretty confident too.

When you've got a spare moment, sit down and elaborate on that brief summary above so you've got a detailed checklist of what needs to be done and by when. That way you've got a timeline to adhere to each day/morning/evening to make it easier to stay on track.

    You can do eet!!

what happened to your white one.

its not repairable with a guard and bonnet and bumper.

its a much tidier car than the grey one, its looks crappy in comparison.

Nah it's not Stitt coming over, another mate who hasn't quite got around to registering on the "new" forums (pffft, they were new like 6 months ago!!!).

I'm gonna chuck in the suspension & diff tomorrow, plus continue stripping the white one. I need to suss out what makes the headlights turn off when you open the drivers door, as the new older one doesn't have that, so I guess I'll have to rip out a bit more stuff than I planned. I just hope the electricals between '85-'86 and '87-'88 isn't too different.....

The grey one is actually in much better condition than the white one, the white ones paint was completely shit, there was a couple of good size dings in it & the front passenger door was peeling, this grey one looks tops compared to the white one. Plus it has a (rustless) sunroof!

And damn standard Cressidas are good cars to drive!

I hope you can manage to get it up and running, at least for WSID so we can catch up. You should be use to working under pressure, you dont want to cause a delay now do you?

    joel. sleep is overrated
seriously if you have the time to commit to that and only that and it runs in old whitey you should be on a winner in the grey one.
    good luck man.
