apologies on the delays in the engine build... fitting the 5V-EU, and AR5 are taking longer then expected....

With any luck at all... the engine will be back at the machine shop where we can finish the overhaul, with added improvements!

I know it has been 7 months since the last update........ and this isn't a huge one... Heads have finally gotten their 3 angle (30/45/60), and the intake valves a 30 degree back cut, and machined the surface.

    So a few updates....

    1) Part of the current delay has to deal with what to do about 5 damaged rocker arms. There is slight galling where the pushrod fits into the rocker arm. There is a guy in California who repairs rocker arms for old DeSoto, and Chrysler hemi's, so we sent out the rockers to be repaired - as there is zero inventory for replacements.

    2) While the rockers are being repaired, work proceeds on the bottom end.... Getting the crank balanced.

One more piece to the puzzle found... or so it seems...

4M valve seals are also "top hat" type seals, and appear to fit the 5V-EU...

    A bit further.....

As this is an aluminum block, there are all kinds of stresses when tightening the main bearings in place, and setting the proper torque. It isn't until after all the mains are fully torqued that the crank turns free.

Once the crank is in, the pistons follow... Those rods are stout for sure, not a dowel in site - ridges to keep the cap properly aligned.

Remember... those are used bearings..... they look nearly new!

installing pistons on this bank... 2 down... 2 to go.... Looks like we got the deck pretty close

I was not happy with the ignition solutions. An old Hemi kind of requires a cap with wires.... so one day last summer I found this.....

    It keeps my options open.

Quite complicated.... anyone have a spare distributor cap?? Or know of one available??

A bit more progress........ all 8 are now in, as is the camshaft, with the timing chain installed....

And now on the other end of the engine...........

Now that the crank is in the engine we can get an accurate measurement off of the auto flexplate, and we find the flywheel to still need another .030" removed from the back side for perfect starter engagement.

The AR5 is fitted to the 5V-EU. The adapter is designed to accommodate any A340E equipped car to change to an AR5 transmission. The AR5 is a knock off of the R154

I'll use one of these shifters... which ever fits the application best

Inside is a new pilot bearings, and a new Clutch Masters clutch kit, it uses an uprated pressure plate (rated @ 110% more then stock), and a kevlar disc. The kit was originally designed for the 1984 Camry equipped with the 2SE engine, the spline of the disc matches the AR5 transmission.

I let it be known... and my contact in Japan stumbled across this... and bought it for me - good thing the exchange rate is good right now!

And another small info update.... a few details about the intake manifold....

As far as intake manifold port size... perfect alignment

Right now we are working on a valve spring[s] upgrade. Something that will allow us to utilize the new rpm potential, and yet not destroy the camshaft do to excess spring pressures. Here is what we have measured so far..... the numbers on the bottom are the inner spring pressures.

jesus that's one crazy dizzy rotor. Must also be damn nice to know someone in japan to go hunting for old stuff like this too. I've seen some very nice X80 stuff there but the prices are crazy and buyee, the yahoo auction proxy that i use, doesn't seem to work as of late.
You finding that dizzy and plug wire set reminded me of my own attempt at scouring an oem cord set for a 7M. In desperation I posted to some cressida facebook group with the part number, and about three months later some dude in hawaii messages me out of the blue asking if I was still looking, together with a photo of it. Had a whole bunch of other stuff too for a head gasket job that he threw in, very cheap but shipping was the killer. When the cord set finally arrived, I looked at the wiring and saw that it was dated 2010...damn. Was probably goofing off in class in high school at the time that was being made.
