Default Advice for '64 crown re-power please.

    Hi All,
I have a '64 crown ute. It should have a 4cyl 3R but it has been fitted with a 6cyl 4M. The car is being done up to be a cruiser.
It is the short front so the 6cyl is a very tight fit with the upper bell housing bolts impossible to get to unless the whole thing is moved forward.
I am thinking about either a LS1 with an auto but I'm not sure if the tunnel is big enough, or a 4cyl turbo set up.
It doesn't really have to go fast, I just want it to look like it could.

    What would you do?

    Thanks,
    Cameron.

Oh and if anyone has parts or knows where I can get them please let me know.

So what's wrong with the 4m? You can just put engine and gearbox together before putting in the ute. Seems like a good engine for a cruiser. A nice set of extractors and exhaust and you'll be set.

Xauterus has never driven a 4M

Im not to sure what to recomend, not having ever had a RSXX Crown. All the ones I've played with have been MSXX or the UZS131. It would make sense to go a 4 cylinder tubo, but in rwd format that can be a little hard in toyota, nissan 4cylinder rwd turbo are a dime a dozen. If you wanted to stay Toyota turbo an 18R or get a beams 3SGE

Dave GiantTomato has a V8 40 series wagon. I've just gone blank on wether its a LS1 or 1UZFE either way it needed a custom rack and pinion set up. There may be a build thread on this forum, the old toymods forums or on performance forums...

I reckon LS1 is good bang for buck, I'd love to LS1 a crown. The JZs are the go but with the short bay pose a few issues...

GTs is 1UZ and he has a good rundown on mods needed to fit and make work.
