It was a great day for my first time out, thanks again Garth. Great weather, plenty of track time and lots of nice people and great cars, even a tradie took his ute out for a spin which was hilarious to watch.
I wasn't expecting to set the world alight with my car being essentially stock and how I drive it every day, and being the first time on the track and at Wakefield. It was no surprise that the best for my first session was 1:27.984. I got 7 sessions over the day and improved enough to get my best time down to 1:19.281 which I was really happy to get below 1:20. I'll be putting a full write up in my thread with some data analysis of the runs.
I have plenty of areas that I can improve, starting with my skills but most of that will come from experience and confidence in what the car can do. The main areas in the car I need to look at are cooling as I was only able to do 4 hot laps at a time, tyres and suspension as the car didn't seem to carry that much speed through the corners and was quite a handful at times, mostly under brakes with the weight transferred to the front. The brakes seemed to last pretty well and didn't seem to fade, though they didn't get worked for a long time each session and had plenty of time to cool between sessions but I did find that the pedal was slightly longer on the way home (thanks for the tip Garth), but the plan was to bleed them afterwards so they should come good after that but I may consider changing fluid types later on.
The only issue I had for the day was that an exhaust clamp came loose but that was an easy fix. And as an interesting note, I used a little over35L for my 7 sessions (about 127km) so was running at 27.8L/100km, quite a lot more than my average of 10.1! Price we pay for speed.
I'll also get some photos up that I took in the pits and on the main straight from the wall.
sub 1:20 on your first day is not too shabby at all!

Helmet was well used thanks. And went through a whole tank of fuel.
She complained it was heavy on the head, but I think that's more because not used to it. I think she may even have dozed off later in the day... Definitely time for more fasts in the car
Evo motor swap I presume
If I could find someone to buy the LSD gearbox I've already got, then that would be nice (though the FTO V6 sounds awesome), but currently just will be Hyundai 2L with VVTi on "FE" style head.
Or even to mate a Mitsi (or other) engine to my current gearbox would be great, but I've got no idea idea for bellhousing swap styles for FWDs...
congrats on getting out there Paul. the times will quickly tumble if you keep at it.
As the aftermath of my rear tyres rubbing on the outer guards, both rear 3/4's are now liberally coated with rubber. Looks like I've been down the street-drags
Anyone got any advice on how to clean this off?
bug and tar remover maybe?
Maybe I should just get around to fitting the body kit pieces, giving it a scuff & getting the 2nd coat of paint on like its supposed to have
