    Default Help! 1G-FE VVTI idle issue, keeps hunting

    Got a 1G-FE VVTI and W5X tranny in a RT132 Corona run by the stock auto ECU.
    Recently, after a 30-minute shakedown cruise, it developed an idle issue. It suddenly began
    jumping from idle to 1600 rpm repeatedly. Prior to this it was running good although
    it idled quite high (around 1000 rpm). Disconnected and reconnected battery to reset the
    ECU, no luck. Unplugged and re-plugged TPS and Pedal Position Sensor with ignition switch "ON",
    still no joy. Adjustment screws on TPS and the rest of TB have not been touched- still have
    paint (seal) on them. DBW motor is wired up and working. CEL is not yet hooked up and diagnostic
    port is not yet wired in. Pretty confident the rest of it is wired correctly, followed every detail on
    the wiring diagram and ran fine after that. Someone, please, steer me in the right direction before
    tearing things apart. Thanks in advance.

    check for a vacuum leak, ive done plenty of fords (mainly focus') that hunt on idle, idle around 1100rpm and jump around, even though a 1gfe is completly different to a focus 1.6 its all still the same in one way or another.

    Check all the lines for splits or bad connections, a tiny split could cause havoc.

    Thanks Callum, I shouldn't have said "hunting" because what it actually does is it jumps from idle to 1600 and keeps doing it till I turn the key off.
    Will check for any vacuum leak. Thanks again.

    Idle issue solved. The culprit- intake manifold leak. It now idles quite nicely at 650 rpm. Thanks again, Callum.
