    Default tight bucket

Hey doods I'm trying to put my buckets back in my freshly reco'd small port head,15 went in prety easy but one is being a bit disobediant.I couldn't push it in by hand but it went in prety easy with a couple of taps of the hammer(mistake # 1 I fear) and held the valve open(didn't close with spring presure) but closed prety easy when I pushed the valve.I've tapped it a couple of times and it doesn't seem to be loosening up and I cant get the bucket out. Any ideas?I hope I havn't shagged it.I tried to search but didn't help.these are the original buckets going back on the same valves with plenty of oil.

    cheers joe

    oh dear...

chekc the bucket and bucket hole for nicks, damage and ovality.

it it is a nick at the top of the hole, you might be able to get away with filing it down, but personally i would take it to a head reco-er.

maybeye try coating the bucket in oil/bearing blue or whatever to see where the tight bit is.

sorry, i dont have any suggestions on how to get the bucket out.

I can turn the bucket with a hammer and a screwdriver in the slot. This is the bucket I pulled out of the very same hole(with my fingers) a couple of months back before giving it to the recoer so I cant see it being the bucket.I tried a couple of spare buckets before tapping(and I mean tapping) the original one in and they were all tight.Have tried removing it withe some long nose pliers but she wont budge. If anyone has any tips on removing the bastard please please let me know.

Is the head on the block yet? If not can you lightly tap the valve in the very centre with a ball side of a hammer?

You could try and get the people who
    freshly reco'd small port head,
to correct what they've caused you to F up.

Someone messed up the follower/lifter bore, and then tapping it in while hoping that it would correct itself was a mistake.

tools that should never be used to fit buckets....thats for sure!

well, you are going to have to get it out to suss the fault. try coating it with CRC or RP7 to try and get it loose. dont hit the valve tho, that may damage the head of the vavle, or the stem.

i would say that there is some sort of bur in the head that is causing the tight fit. i fear that you may have damaged the bucket if you have been hitting it with screwdrivers and the like. definetlry NOT recommended....

Thanx doods I have a spare set of buckets I can choose from so I will chat to the head dood and see what he has to say.I was more worried that the top of the valve stem may have been bent and was throwing the bucket off centre. Another lesson learnt.

If you accept that the bucket is dead, you should be able to weld a handle (like a nut) to the top of it, then get into it with a slide hammer.

I'd be finding a good welder and being very careful though.

If you had the mother off all magnets, you might be able to use that - it's jammed

a bit of momentum from shock (use a wooden drift or something to not damage any parts around it), with a welding magnet (fairly srtrong magnet) attached for weight might be enough to let it slide out enough to get a grip on it...
if it rotates then there should be enough in there if the bucket had suitable weight attached to cause momentum to free it with some deft taps.

Thanx again guys, I pulled the shim out and latched a pair of vice grips to the shim retaining lip and slid it out fairly easily, then lightly ran a jewlers file around the top of the hole on a slight angle so as not to damage the wall at all, then cleaned it,lubed it and slid it another bucket in with my fingers. Cant belive how stupid tapping it in sounds now. Thanx again for the help and and not flaming the shit out of me.
