    Default R series transmission compatibility

    I have a 2008 Hilux 2wd with a R150 gearbox, Its a 2-tr-fe 4 cylinder(looking to turbo it)
    Basically the gear ratios suck.
    Would the R154 out of a later model supra bolt onto the same housing or motor??
    As that has a much better spread of gears.

    I can't seem to find and info on whether or not would have similar or the same bolt patterns.

    Thanks Josh

    Maybe;
    It will bolt to your bellhousing but R150's have two different input shaft lengths, 160mm/190mm but yours being a late model, would say its 190mm.

    Make sure you buy a r154, seen a few people (and shops) selling late model R150's as R154's and charging 3x the price.

    Nope sorry, i have had both 2WD r150 (2tr) and r151 (1kd) and they are the short input shafts 160mm. however i am unsure what the r150 from the 1gr (v6 petrol) has, its a different part number for the input shaft so i suspect its longer so the heads clear the the firewall maybe? dont know, not many for sale and when they were for sale none of the wreckers would measure it for me haha

    Phew I almost bought one. Looking online it seems 1gr and 2tr have the ratios. I also can't get anyone to confirm the 1gr shaft length. Everyone on the interweb thinks it's 190mm.

    Can you confirm it ratios are the same, which means input shaft could be swappable

    Thanks

    well going by the part numbers on toyodiy, the 2tr r150 and the 1gr r150 box has the same lay shaft, so id say yes the input shaft could be changed

    They changed the helix angles on the gears at some point so you can't just swap them Willy nilly, but yes you can swap from a short to a long input or vice versa, providing you've done your homework and everything meshes up

    Fair enough, something to keep a eye on, they have build the r150 all the way through from the 80s didnt they? so maybe they have a early and late version

    I've wanted to post these images for while now, but always forgot where I had these stored.

    I hold it helps to identify what we have here in the USA as transmissions and which vehicles they came in...
