    Default Odd T50?? Help required.

Picked up a spare box, ICE for my Spitfire conversion. It has a couple of connections I haven't been able to identify and the case is a little different to the others I've seen. Any help, pointers to more information much appreciated. (this image is also in my new Members Rides thread)

    Cheers.

This looks like the AE86/TE72 T50 rather than the TA22 T50 as the rear section where the shifter housing bolts up is different. Not sure on the plugs though. It doesn't match the EPC for the AE86 box or the TA22. You may need to check the spline count on the rear where the tailshaft goes as the TE72 T50s had an early and late model, the early had 20 spline whereas the late model has 22 splines like the AE86 T50's.

    AE86

    TA22

Wire on top is odd, normally that's where I would expect a trigger wheel pickup for ABS

    Thanks guys,

It's 20 spline. Would more images help?

I was wondering if someone may have modified it with oil temperature/level senders but what would they be doing there and they look OEMish.

    Cheers.

    Added......

Did I say somewhere that I was a mechanical numpty? If I didn't I should have ........ several times. Looking at the box it suddenly occurred to me that the easiest way find out what they are was to take them out and have a look.

I'm a bit slow at times too!

Out they came, they appear to be switches and are identical. I'm now inclined towards thinking they may be there to indicate when the box is in neutral or reverse. Pics tonight when I get home. (If I can find it!)

    Cheers, again!

Pics as promised, if I connect 12v and test the gear positions maybe it will solve the puzzle.

hmmmmmmmm, maybe Daihatsu Charmont use only??

The AE86 diagram shows the hole in the side of the box.... but it has a plug in it, not a switch

The box is from TE72, out of memory, which is also known as T18. switches are for emission control functions. They can be used as neutral indicator light if you so wish, but TA22 don't use them unless you have a 3tc engine and emission computer rrom T18.

Yes, for emission control. My k50 from a swedish 83` kp61 starlet had the same switches

Mystery solved, thanks guys. Maybe I could get really fancy and use the switches to have the engine cutout when it's in neutral and restart going back into gear. Think I'll pass on that one I'll be happy if it runs properly!

Thanks, guess it was a hi-spec unit if they went to the trouble of adding gear telltales. Don't suppose they did service as Tokyo taxis?
