Beams motor in a Hilux? Pretty sure they didn't come like that so we need more info.

Are you running the BEAMS ECU? If not the tune is the likely culprit and it's gonna be pretty hard to diagnose over the internet. In addition to the normal spark and ignition timing these things have variable cam timing, which is cool and all but hard for mere mortals to deal with (and even those with god-like tuning powers if you aren't willing to pay them).

If you are running the stock computer and the person who did the wiring had half a brain you will still have a check engine light output and a diagnostics plug in the loom somewhere. Diagnosing things via the internet becomes a lot easier when the factory toyota computer can tell us what is wrong with it (and given the correct inputs the stock computer doesn't make mistakes like letting the engine ping).

The engine is stock and running the standard ecu, it has the check engine light (which isnt on) and when scanned using the old 17 pin connector in engine bay and obd2 plug under the dash there are no codes in current or history.
On a cold morning or when raining it very rarely happens, on a hot day its bad but you can drive around it by changing the throttle percentage. It does have a pod filter in the engine bay (this is temporary)

Too much ignition advance, inlet air too hot, mixture on the lean side, not enough octane rating, or a combination of these factors. Inlet air temp is obviously having some effect from your comments. Maybe check your ignition timing, and if need be, retard the timing a few degrees and see if it makes a difference.

How much piping have you got between the pod filter (or bend) and the MAF? When Bill Sherwood put a BEAMS in his AE86 he had big problems with turbulence in the intake throwing the MAF off and stuffing up the mixture, he rectified it by basically installing a massive bunch of drinking straws like a honeycomb infront of the sensor to straighten the airflow out

That's awesome! I didn't think anyone would market that for modified cars...

is the idle stable? Cold start right? (1500 down to 1100-1200 down to 750-850)

    checked the throttle position sensor?

might not be relevant but have you tried reconnecting the cam cover breather hose back into the intake pipe to see if it has an effect?

Yes cold start is perfect as well as the idle

Throttle position sensor is working perfect

I'm going to check the timing belt marks to see if it could be out but i somehow doubt it as it runs to smooth apart from the pinging

do you have a vacuum operated fuel pressure regulator?

Pull the vacuum line from it, plug the vacuum line... KEEP the FPR fitting "open" See if it still does it.
