    Default 18R turbo

Can i build turbo On a stock 18R or do i have to lower the compression or/and Change to stronger Head gasket? And can i use stock carburator without electronic fuelpump?

    Hi,

I assume you are talking about the 18R-C, as opposed to the 18R-G?

If so, the stock CR of the 18R-C is fine. Matter of fact I think the stock CR of the 18R-GU and 18R-GUE are in the 8-point-something also. But if it's an 18R-G or 18R-GR then I'd drop the CR down a bit for turboing.

any have any thoughts on how a single CT12a would help or hinder an 18r blow through carby turbo setup

i got given a set of std JZ twins one seized the other has minimal shaft play. i was thinking dodgy one up on the 18r and rebuild the other for a spare

dont really want put them both on but im thinking one is prob a bit small ay?

A few years ago I was playing with a draw through turbo setup on a 4k, was an su carb mounted to the front of a ct12 sized turbo feeding staight into the inlet ports, made the old 4k move pretty well. Just remember to get metal seals put in the turbo, the rubber ones don't like the fuel too much.

Just an option if you have problems with your stock carby.
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

I have a hilux with an 18r running a draw through t04 turbo and a Stromberg cd175 at 9 psi. I fitted an electric fuel pump which runs all the time along side the mechanical one the carby has two fuel inlets
only issues I have had are the initial tune (I had to make my own needle using a drill and sandpaper)
And after six months of flogging it did a big end.

Been there and got the T-shirt, both draw thru carbi and then efi. T03/4 hybrid for the carbi and then ex-rb30 Turbo with custom fabbed intake. Even with a Turbo friendly cam, the motor ran out of puff/flow too early compared to 18rg head. EFI made it far more drivable but over 5k it tappered off. Far better to start with a efi-capable engine
