Default Toymods Social Events and Club Activities - Your Comments and feedback Requested

The Toymods monthly events have seen dwindling numbers over the last few years.

The board has a few ideas for the upcoming year but Feedback and suggestion is always very welcome. So this is the place.

If there is something you want to see us do (AND WILL ATTEND IF WE DO) then post it up here so we can consider it.

    1. Go-karting day/Mini GP at somewhere like Picton or Eastern Creek, give people plenty of notice to stump up cash, collect deposits up front so the club isn't out of pocket and people commit to the date.

    2. Some dinners attached to a cheapish social activity eg Barefoot Bowling then a dinner afterwards, Putt Putt in conjuction with a Cruise or Dinner depending on location, 10 Pin Bowling and a dinner etc. Dinner doesn't even have to be formal eg we are heading to zyx Pub/Club afterwards whoever wants to is free to join or just come for one or the other.
    If in doubt power out

Ive organised events such as the above before as "unofficial" events, but yeah we could maybe try doing them under the toymods banner, and more regularly.

Cruise + show and shine to Canberra Marques in the Park come early November. Always great mid-spring weather and a great turnout of all sorts of cars would be bolstered by a more fitting Toyota representation to compliment Canberra Celica Group's longstanding tradition of attending.

    2011 - A fantastic turnout of classic Celica's:

Mightn't make much of a difference to the Sydney mob, but maybe a few more social events in the northern suburbs so it is closer for the Coast/Newy guys to come. Not necessarily cruises, but having to drive 2 hours just to get to Sydney in the first place makes driving an additional 30 minutes through the city to somewhere like Parramatta or Liverpool just that little bit more frustrating.

It's already in the Back of my mind to suggest North / South / West cruises to better encompass the outlying areas. With the meet points in the North / South / West of the Syd Metro.

The First Cruise for 2013 is to Wollombi Tavern. I'm more than happy to meet you Central Coast / Newy guys there, or 1/2 way there. Check the Cruise threads.

    Cheers

Yeah the Broke/Wollombi cruise I haven't decided whether I'll do the first half (drive down to Sydney then back up to Wollombi and then home) or the Putty Rd half (drive straight to Wollombi for lunch, then Putty Rd to Sydney and then back the F3). I did the full round trip a few years ago (Newy-Annandale-Berowra meet-Wollombi-Broke-Putty Road-Windsor-F3-home) and it was a HELL of a long day (~650km).

Was more referring to social events rather than cruises, meet-ups at Harrys are the sort of thing I want to go to more often but a week-day night on the far side of Sydney is a stretch.

Just going on the idea of us getting together to attend other shows going on in the car scene, I was searching up if there is indeed a End of Month Meet from the ever-popular young club that is JDMST. Turns out there isnt as the club is too big now to even post up an 'official' random meet.

This is going on though as a "show" for the month: http://forum.jdmstyletuning.com/show...Bikini-Carwash

Hiro: I like the idea of us Sydney folk going to perhaps a different 'meet & chat' venue now and then. Do you know of a few other people who might be keen up your way? Know any good pie/coffee/similiar places that could be good between Syd/Coast ? Thinking about it actually could be like a mini cruise if it was organised where all the Syd folks meet in one spot first, then drive 1 hr up together hehe (& similiar for Coast guys driving down).

Guys, off the top of my head,, toymods organised the following for 2012.

Monthly meets at Harry's Cafe d Wheels - good attendance every month which is encouraging
Toyotafest - bigger every year, well 2012 was smaller than 2013 but due to venue not being secured early enough
Toyotafest dinner - reasonably well attended
Christmas Dinner - reasonably well attended
Classic Celica Appreciation Day - Bigger and better every year
Dyno day - numbers shrinking every year. Event not covering costs.
Mothers Product demo day - small attendance
    NRMA Motorfest - well attended
Shannons Eastern Creek Classic - well attended
Al Palmers Toyota show - a few attended
Toyota Appreciation day at Zen Garage - reasonable attendance.
Old School Toyota meet up at Harrys Cafe - Liverpool - organised by non-board member - reasonably well attended.
Lost race track cruise - only board members attended - why do we organise cruises?

So I count 12 events off the top of my head that we ran. Apart from Classic Celica day, the only cruise we ran had zero attendance outside of board members. And no it wasn't a cruise in traffic.

I think we have a good spread of events throughout the year that cater for most. We do not have any competition driving events because we are not cams affiliated but there are regular wakefield days organised through our forum. Likewise Nationals had both motorkhana and drag racing.

I would like to see Toymods attending more events run by other clubs and organisations this year. I have attended Marques in the park a couple of times and fully intend on making this a regular event on my calendar. I missed it last year only because it was over before I remembered to look it up.

I am more than happy to organise other events if people want to attend but really we haven't had a good track record with cuises in recent years for various reasons. In fact I don't even think we have anyone earmarked for the cruise dude position in the board this year. If someone has a passion for this and would consider taking up this responsibility, please email [email protected] and let us know so we can get you nominated before the AGM this month.

Personally I think the way people organise their lives has changed and Toymods hasn't kept up. We provide plenty of notice for events and everyone "forgets" I think we need to start utilising social media a lot better and prompt/remind people of events rather than just planning them. Call me an old fart but I don't do the whole social media thing. But if thats what it takes to improve club attendance then sign me up to bookface or whatever it's called.

Please everyone feel free to add comments in here, letting us know both what we are currently doing well and where we can improve or opportunities we can take advantage of.

I have started promoting events on facebook n shit. We will get better at it this year.

and yes people, as always if you feel like you have the time and the enthusiasm, come to the AGM and put your hand up for a position on the board. Sadly there are a lot of vacant positions, but maybe that just means there is an opportunity for some new blood to join and help us take the club forwards into a new direction

I mentioned in other thread before this one started, but definitely think getting the Toymods events synced in more with Facebook would be good. Only point is everybody will see it, and it'll do wonders for the club presence. Everybody uses Facebook (well almost ^) and getting event notifications out to Group members/Fanpage liker's would make sure our events are atleast remembered. I like what Gold28 said about peoples lives have changed over time & Toymods hasnt, its just that some people live on other social networks rather than forums only. Maybe everyone just forgets that we even have events!? Almost every other club/forum/car group has a Facebook fan page or group that spreads social events, it seems that is how most people find out unless youre a die-hard forum'er.

I think TBH a lot more people would come - ie Other Toyota owners who are friends of Toymods Members would then also see the event in their Facebook -> Interest may develop -> We are onto something here... Even NuffinSus Motorsports from Sydney are on there spreading any cruises/events of interest for their club members to go. Surely if NuffinSus can get this right and have numbers, we can make ours much much better lol. (Link to NuffinSus Motorsports for anyone interested http://www.facebook.com/nuffinsus?fref=ts ... :/ seriously)

The Toymods group that exists right now has 300+ people but the only problem is, unless users turn their 'notifications on' for the group (which is hard to find) they wont get notified of any posts in there. A fan-page may better serve the purpose to put up official cruises etc for us, and all we have to do is like the page. Creating events for actual cruises/club things can be locked to only invite easily, so NuffinSus don't invade our cruise.

Anyway, getting sycned onto FB is nothing hard to achieve. I can gladly help out on Social Media as it is part of my day-to-day job on all things web, but besides me Im sure there are more people who know their way around FB also to get things rolling. I can't put my hand up to do the entire IT role after I saw the full description - just not enough time sorry, but more than willing to officially take care of certain sections of it. I dont know if the Board folks would want to 'split' a role into something like that.

seriously dude; the IT role isnt as hard as it might sound in the description. we will explain more at the AGM. I dont speak for everybody else but I would be very happy to see you come on board in the IT role..

I'm afraid I'd be no good in the IT role due to limited time and my expertise being a lot more specialised (although web pages are basic enough to be easy) to assist with online presence. It sounds like to me the role is more about online presence rather than technical aspects (although the technical expertise is necessary), so someone who has google know-how and moderator experience.

One aspect I'd be happy to assist with though would be IPv6 presence (none at the moment), if Toymods hosting provider is unable to provide then you can possibly look into deploying Toymods over a content delivery network (reverse proxied) which gives you IPv6 and would also reduce bandwidth to your hosting (if they charge per MB then this might be attractive?)

Putting this up here because no way I could make any board meetings in the foreseeable future.
