    Default 5ME into MX73 Cressida

    HI all,
This is my first post & I require some assistance regarding the following.
The 5mge in my 1988 MX73 Cressida has died a horrible death.
I have a fully recon'd 5ME out of a 1984 Crown Royal that I would like to install.
I know I will lose a bit of power but it has only done 16000 k since recon.
My main query is regarding the ECU changeover as the 5ME ecu is the early 2 plug ( 9 pin & 13 pin), whereas the 5MGE in the MX73 is the 3 plug variety. What is the best way to go about it?
I understand I will still need to run the Vac advance dizzy on the 5ME. I will also install the 4 spd auto fom the 5MGE to the 5ME.
AS you can probably tell I am a bit in the dark regarding ECU conversions, but mechanically it is a piece of cake.
Just a bit wary as the 5MGE ECU has idle control valve terminals as well.
    Any advised would be appreciated.
    Have a nice day!

The wiring will be far from plug and play, you'll basically have to rewire everything.
It would actually be about the same difficulty to wire in a 2JZ or similar.

I'm pretty sure the 5MGE auto will not be compatible with the 5ME ecu either. It will be missing wires. You'll need to run the 5ME autobox.

    Thanks for the prompt reply,
I realise that it isn't going to be easy but I was hoping to use the 5MGE ECU by splicing the 5ME engine loom into it.

You can use the 5MGE ecu, but you'll need to get a custom dizzy to retain the 5MGE one (5ME will not fit), you'll need to use the 5MGE TPS, adapt the knock sensor (may already be somewhere for it), get an o2 sensor fitted to the 5ME exhaust header (can't remember if its got one from factory, and the 5MGE manifold won't fit), adapt the 5MGE ISCV as you've already pointed out, and no doubt possibly more?

And that doesn't take into account A/C, PS, or ALT (which may be 5 seconds or 5 hour jobs).

    A lot of effort there!
But I sort of understand the reasoning.

    Cheers for that info,
I think it might be easier to use the 5ME ecu after all.
Just for interest, will the 5MGE ECU work without the ISCV connected?

ECU will work fine, obviously you'll have no idle control (depending on whether the 5ME idle control will work?)

    Thanks again!
So, strictly speaking, if I just connect the parameters required by the 5ME to the 5MGE ECU I should get somewhere.
As to your previous reply, I intend using the AC, PS & ALT that are in the MX73 as they are a straight bolt up to the5ME.So I can use the wiring from these to the ECU.
And yes there is a o2 sensor in the cressida engine pipe I should be able to use.
    I really appreciate your help!
