    Default 4age sump gasket

what does eveyone use for a sump gasket?

last time i used a silicone gasket maker and it seemed to work pretty well altho not quite as adheisive as the toyota gasket (possibly cause the toyota gasket was in there for a number of years)

anyways if i remember right you can buy the silicone gasket stuff from toyota is it worth buying the toyota stuff im not sure how much the generic stuff i bought was but assume it would be cheaper

I just used the loctite product listed for that task and it's worked fine. Can't remember which number loctite product it was though.

I've also had good experiences with the Permatex sealants for this sort of thing.

i use MOPAR ATF RTV.. basically oil proof sealant that i get from work for nix. if it can seal up a chrysler for any period of time, it must be bloody good stuff

apart from that loctite blue/grey is great stuff. try getting a price on the toyota sealant from the dealer. you may find its resonably priced?

The A blocks don't use gaskets, they jsut have a application of sealant.
But I think this is what you meant.

What I do is use a good silicone sealant - run a good bead of it around the block - then put the sump on and only up the nuts til just tight by hand.
Then wait about 24 hours until the goo has gone off, then tighten up the nuts properly. This makes sure that the sealant is still crushable and will seal well later.

try 3Bond 1217F, known as "gray stuff" we used this on formed in place gaskets for OEM, works pretty well.

i have used blue RTV before, but my mains and dizzy leak oil anyway, so its hard to say how well it works.
