    Default Assembling 4AGZE Piston rings

Trying to assemble my 4AGZE last night and found out the 2nd ring has a step machined. Is the step should face up or face down?

    Cheers

    Hi,

Most piston ring have some kind of marking on the ring end. This is also an indication of which side is facing up. I think toyota also have the same method of marking. So the mark should indicate face up. Hope this helps. Cheers.

There are only 2 word and number on the rings 1R, 2R and obviously the size +0.50.

The machined step has removed some of the ring coatings, will this be an issue?

    Hi,
It should be no issue. unless it is worn out badly.

Regarding the ring marking, the R1 indicate Ring 1 , R2- Ring 2 and should indicate face-up direction the 3rd ring should have some mark too not neccessaryly R3. Most oil ring have mark some do not.

Most engine re-build include replacing piston ring. Maybe yours is still in good condition i presume. Anyway hope this helps. Cheers.

    Hi,
Sorry for any miss understanding. Im not implying that you used old parts bro. If its new then its the best. Anyway hope succsess for your build.
Just for tip about piston ring arrangement, if im not mistaken, 4Agze has 4 sets of rings, so the ring end should be positioned 45 degree away from each other. Cheers.
