Default Auto conversion on my ta22

    hi all,

New here and absolute noob when it comes to this sort of thing. i have a general knowledge and know how to google well. im looking to convert my ta22 stock to auto.

Currently running a 2t with a 5 speed behind it.

Im looking to replace the engine with a stronger 3t which i recently purchased so i thought while thats out ill replace the gearbox aswell as id prefer an auto.

Basically i learn as i go so here we go...

    3t + A40 3 speed

    I have a ...

    and a ...

    what goes inbetween these two?

    thanks,
    wil

Wow. Someone changing from a manual to Auto? O___o

Don't take me the wrong way but may I ask why? Manual gives you so much more control of the car and is a lot more fun to drive

In the pictures it looks like you have everything you need but a new clutch. Do you have the Auto trans oil lines that run to the radiator? Come to think of it, Have you got a radiator out of an Automatic? You can always buy a trans oil cooler but would look a lot neater running to the stock radiator in my opinion.

yes i know the conversion is odd, its just more convenient right now as ill be sharing this ride with my girlfriend.

radiator with oil cooler ill sort later (have all the lines aswell)

that flywheel sitting under the engine was off the the previous 5speed. there is obviously a automatic flywheel im missing that i need to marry up to the bell?

Ahh... That may be an issue but I don't know enough about 3T's or the T50 gearbox...

Main points are, you will need all the selector parts and th mount plate to bolt it to the floor, gearbox xmember, kick down parts, you will basically need to find an auto 22 to steal the smalle bits and pieces from.

In my honest opinion. It's a bad idea and its completely pointless. Just bolt in the 3t and enjoy the entra 2hp. If you are only converting the car to auto because of your girlfriend I would suggest telling her to get her manual license.
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

RIP, where ever you are :- 1974 celica, 3tgte and 186.5hp at 6500rpm

Better option if you are dead set on the auto is to see if you can get a auto box from the IS200 and fit that behind the motor as it is newer and is a 4 speed. The manual 6 speed box from the 1G-FE motor in the IS200 has been bolted onto the back of a few T series motors so the auto should fit but not sure on how the auto torque converter would fit onto the 2T flexplate. May need a bit of fab work for that.

Also would need to probably make custom linkages to the selector and a custom tailshaft.

Oh wait I guess you are doing this on the cheap so ignore all of the above
