    Default 18rg into rt40

First question. Can I use the stock 4speed column shift box? Do the 2r and 18r have the same bell housing/gearbox bolt pattern? If I do need to go the floor shift gearbox route what is the easiest way to measure where the hole needs to be? Is the rt40 master cyl big enough to push a w50 slave cylinder? Has anyone got the 18rg to fit with extrctors?
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

Ok I need help with a shopping list. - engine mounts? Gearbox crossmember? Brake upgrade? Any problems with running a 2 1/4" exhaust? And a randon question, What's the maximum tow capacity of a stock rt40 tow bar?

    eng mounts http://www.ebay.com/itm/L-R-Engine-M...3f145d&vxp=mtr

if you need a gearbox cross member check ebay and gumtree and wreckers

2.1/4 inch exh. is to big for a 2r and it will sound like ass IMO

ive had two ronas with towbars one was 500kg the other 800kg either way i was more concerned about the mounting points than i was the bar

RT81 disc brake front is bolt in jobbie or use early TA22 as done here http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tec...onto-rt40.html

I meant to put the 18rg in. I've read something about hilux mounts but nothing about the gearbox mounts.

Ooooooh my bad i hadnt had my coffee this morning

on the hilux R motors there is engine mount block bracket the left one i think is shorter than the right one you need two of those use the celica mounts as they are flatter than the RT ones

make a 5-7mm steel plate with 4 threaded hole in it 2 to line up with the xmember brackets bolt holes put bolts in from the bottom grind off excess two from the top through the engine mount holes also ground flush two of these must be done prior to fitting

Gbox Xmember just needs too sit a few inchs back so any angle or c section thats reasonably thick will do use a modified celica xmember just weld the extra bits to each end too reach the mounting holes un der the RT

Ok now for some research questions, is it possible to convert an a40 auto to column shift? Is there any toyota auto gearboxes that will bolt to the 18rg that are column shift or can be converted.? Is it possible to manualize the auto?

is it possible to convert an a40 auto to column shift. its possible to convert just about any auto to a column shift

Is there any toyota auto gearboxes that will bolt to the 18rg that are column shift or can be converted. i believe there are some 18R powered auto vans dunno if they ever sold in aus but

Is it possible to manualize the auto. in theory yes

All the Qs you asked are a money + time x work issue

it would be easier cheaper to go manual

It only easier to go manual if I can find a pedal box. I can't really justify pulling parts off the 66 because then no one will want it.

Although I don't think anyone is interested in buying it anyway so maybe I should just scrap it.

Ok I've made a wrecking thread now, I've always been curious though. Is there a 6 speed that will bolt behind an r series engine.

first dont limit your wrecking thread to toymods

put some on gumtree and the network54 corona forum even ebay RT40 parts sell rather quick

there is no direct bolton 6speed solution but i think its possible to make a Beams 6speed fit and i spose you could also get V16x to bolt to it with alot of work but those boxes are huge comapered to how much room there is in the RTs trans tunnel

Hello there. From the USA here...

I have an 18RG in a RT52 and being LHD is a little different but installation of the headers are still somewhat the same...

I modified a TRUST header to fit and it worked out well.

Installing the 18RG will need new mounts made as the 3R mounts dont work.

You also need to add tranny mounts to the body side.

    Also a big ass hammer...

    Enjoy and be safe!
