hi barry we did this years ago with a 4age small port head and changed the inlet track so its on the back of the valve ,with 7age crank offset grind to make it 1920 cc and with quad throttles made 165 kws at 8200 rpm but it still doesnt have the torque of the 3sge beams motor
he has gone over to 1 of these and is now making 190kws at back wheels at 8000 rpm with some vvti

Yes we'll aware of what a beams can make. There is 1 in nz which makes well over 200kw atw.

1600 16v Atlantic spec engines push 200-210whp no issues.
It's known the 16v head can flow well.

My goal is to push the limits of the 20v head.
With good flow bench numbers we should be able to get a good result. (280cfm intake)

Oil supply from the main gallery to the crank main oil pass is not drilled 180° apart so oil feed inside the crank is not constant. 2) Rod bolt will stretch if spun enough to make good N/A power. I've seen enough spun rod bearing and snapped rods bolts to advice against using a 7A crank at all. I'd use any 4A crank as well as basda's stroker crank, but no 7As for me

Cheers, good clarification of the specifics. So even with a flasher crank, how do you overcome the main oil gallery feed issue?

The 7a cranks have their limits. Everyone knows that.
The oil gallery holes in the crank are not drilled for consistant oil flow to the bearings.
The oil galleries can be modded (drilled) of course and they will survive much longer.

The bigger 48mm journal is to create more journal overlap to strengthen the crankshaft.
48mm journal size is actually a good thing "size wise". When being turned over 9000rpm they are more stable.
We would of gone 48mm on the journals in our crank but then it requires a lot of block clearancing to make it work out, plus its heavier weight wise and there isnt really any thing wrong with the 45mm 4age journal size.

The honda B series engines use 48mm journals as well.

Yep, SR20 do too, but like the 4A and honda B, they have 2 oil holes per rod journal opposed to the single oil hole of the 7A... the single oil hole issue only gets worst as the journal gets bigger.

And yes you can bore the crank to get a second oil hole, but since the pass between the main and rod journal cannot be rebored, one of the hole in the rod journal will have bias flow compared to the other because of the angle with which it meets the rod journal pass so it's not perfect in anyway.

P.S. 4A-G journals are 42mm... the rods big ends are 45mm

Here's a view of the crank drilling... top is 7A crank, bottom is bluetop 4A-G, but all other 4A-G cranks are drilled that way, same with the SR20s and Honda B and almost all performance oriented engines

Yes they are all the flaws of the 7a crankshaft. Only made fow low rpm usage.
People push them to the limits. Some fail, some dont. All depends on what your using the car for and how hard its driven.
I have drawings for both crankshafts

Sorry I got my numbers mixed up on the journals haha.

Just got some feedback from one of our customers running a 9age 20v kit.
The new engine with no other mods from his 1600cc version to 1900cc netted him 1.5s faster a lap (sorry I didnt ask which track but he says its a new record for his class of racing).
Much more power through the entire rev range, so he had much more pull out of the corners etc.
Only problem was his C52 box didnt like the extra power and gave up.

Looking forward to seeing more of these engines complete and racing! I know of quite a few still in the build which will be ready soon.

Not much longer for me now. Just a few bits and pieces and it will go to the shop to get built

My engine is coming together at last! Block has been tapped for bigger headstuds, oil pump galleries port matched, crank girdle matched up. Just got to machine the bores and then the assembly begins

Awesome work. Make sure the main tunnels are lined honed with the girdle torqued up.

Default MRP 7age/9age 1900cc Stroker Kit

24psi and about 13deg total timing in the top end due to almost 100deg intake temps

Edit - for those interested in budget. My engine cost a bit over 10k to build
