Hi All
I was down at the wreckers today doing a few measurements of a couple of front suspension parts, noteably ra60 and ke70 front crossmembers and control arms.
I am wanting to compare the numbers to an RA40 but i wasn't able to measure the strut as I couldn't remove the caliper (due to not having a spanner to remove the bottom bolt).
So if anyone has an approximate angle of an ra40 strut to the hub, i would really appreciate it.
If you have a bare strut lying around but can't work out the angle, let me know and i will help you out (assuming you have a right square handy).
cheers

can you use photoshop to superimpose struts ovver each other? ive seen that done before
hello
i know the picture you are talking of (it compares an ra60 strut to an ma61 strut i think) but there are three major issues i have with that approach:
1. I have to have the struts out of the car to take a good enough picture and as I was down at the wrecker with a mate and he didn't want to wait that long, that wasn't going to happen
2. i need a camera, which even in this day and age i don't have for various reasons.
3. I don't have photoshop...only paint (as you can see by the most impressive pic above).
i was able to get the angle of an ra60 strut by using the above method (measuring a, b, and c)
but i couldn't get a reliable measurement of the ra40 strut because i couldn't remove caliper to remove the hub to put my right square on the stub.
I was kind of hoping someone may just have the ra40 strut (with stub) just lying in their shed or something that they could just chuck a right square on and do a quick measurement.
I was told ra23/8 is the same so that would do as a measuremnt also if someoen has one of them lying about....
ra40 is same as ra28.
ill duck down to celica spares tommorow in my lunch break....like i wasnt going to anyway...

i think the angle/degree IIRC is called "kingpin inclination"
thankyou very muchly.
Was this measured from the top of the bracket and from the bottom of the bracket? i would need that measurement to work out the angle, or was it measured from the bottom of the stub to the top of the bracket (distance c between the 2 measuements that you took).
extreme tops and bottoms.
base was done to a theoretical extension of the strut tube if you get my drift.

cheers, i should be able to get the 'c' measurment for the bracket no worries...now to work out lots of angles and stuff
If i can measure good i think i got the angle of an ra60 strut to be 7.67 degrees, so i assume the ra40 strut will be less than that.
Playing with Trigonometry will be the next fun bit to work out how much wider the track will be with the ke70 crossmember and an ra60 strut with camber issues.
