    Default 1uzfe into Hot Rod

Hey all i am looking at putting a 1uzfe and auto out of my 1989 crown into a Hot Rod. My friends in the hot rod world say go 350 chev not the Toyota V8 due to parts being red-ably available for years to come.
EG, 10 years from now i am cruizing along in my Hot Rod in Cooma when i blow a water pump. Do you think i will be able to walk into an Auto Spares store and buy another? I must agree that i could for a chev. What do you think?
For the record i would much rather put in a Toyota V8, they rock and are far more individual, everyone has a 350.

The other thing is that loom scares me! i have read through quite a few posts, the guy who put a 1uzfe into a bus didnt seem to have any troubles. Would i keep the ECU and transmission control unit intact and drag all the wiring with it? I am in Victoria.

Any input would be greatly appreciated before i start hacking apart my Crown! Has anyone used the Crown IRS in a transplant before?

i would go an l98 or ls3 or even ls1
you should be able to get parts for the 1uz in 10 years time
maybe not from toyota but atleast some aftermarket from ebay
ive fixed afew 1uzs into old hotsrods
one was a single spinner ford ute and also an early 29 model A i think it was
theearly crown 1uzs are easier to fit mechanically
but abit more fiddly to do the wiring on as they run a seperate engine ecu and auto ecu
and therefore if u have limited space under the dash then u need to find where to shove the 2 ecus
maybe find the correct diagrams and study them for afew weeks
then lay loom on the floor and go for it
might take afew weeks on and off if u know abit about wiring

Thanx not so dumbass. I think i will go the chev way this time and keep the Crown for another project. It is an engineering miracle when you really go over it, might use it for a woody instead. Rod

Crown IRS, Celsior and or Soarer for that matter would involve the same amount of "brain power" as going sorta "old school" and fitting Jag IRS sans the orrible subframe or even Commonwhore IRS for example. Engine? Well the basic 1UZ is much the same no matter what is it in but the looms and puters are different. In your case I'd be looking for a UZZ31 Soarer loom and puter and away you go, fit some 7M-GE green top injectors and enjoy, Wiring aint hard as it is all out there and the Soarer type wiring is the easiest on a budget unless you want to go something like a Link V5. Engine parts? No problem, you just need to know where to go and what to ask for

nothing is hard if your willing to learn and take your time
maybe evn look at a nissan gtr irs rear as they fit these to many kit cars
also price up some holden ls1 or ls2 or l98 stuff
u can pick up crashed cars for under 10g
by time u use what u need even the irs from them and then sell off some other stuff u can actually
    do it onb the cheap
they are easy to wire and can be programmed for extra power in 10 minutes

im just heading off to old school car show at coolangatta called wintersun
should be about 1200 cars pity its fking freezing

I am putting a 1UZ in a 34 Ford cabriolet, had to fit a remote filter adaptor and change the drive belts to narrow it all down. I used a UC torana front suspension and had a bit of fun locating the steering shafts, underfloor brake pedal was heated and bent to clear; and a custom header is going to be made for the driver side. Custom radiator was $800 from aussie desert coolers. Using an early hilux diff - my point? Build your car how You want - I am. Less than 20 grand all up is my aim.

If you want a 1UZ and a good IRS setup then just buy a cheap V8 Soarer and you'll get both. IRS is lightyears better designed than both Jag and Commodore, doesnt weigh 500tons like the Jag one or have stupid inboard brakes and you wont break it.

i will def look into the IRS, i didnt know they were an unboltable unit, bonus! what about the front end, are they welded to the chassis rails or are they bolt in too? the reason for asking is that the front and rear wheels have to be within 25mm of each others width. Rod

    nah go the 1uz
chevs in hotrods are like bums , everyone has got one
1 uz,s can dress up with minimum effort
this is the result of one sunday afternoon , some polishing wheels that fit into a electric drill ,
a few beers and you end up with

if you had the time and patience you could polish the whole engine to a chrome like finish
nostalgia is not what it used to be:
