...hmmm need to get my car there... somehow.

It's also the weekend before we move... Taking leave 2 weekends in a row could prove interesting.

I just need to get oil into my gearbox, and I'm all set. Tow car will be back from the panel beater by then also, so less hassles.

Good to see some fingers have finally been pulled. Xero, the dash is nothing more than a nice to have - certainly not a showstopper. Dylan, it will only be more difficult after you move. Rona, good to see, when's it getting tuned?

There were several other people that said they were set to go, where have they gone? I've done my bit; managed to get excused about an hour ago from a 12 week supreme court jury duty, just so i could come to wakefield, so you better not all back out and make my sacrifice for nothing.

Hopefully start tuning next week, that will only be run in tune. I'm hoping I'll get it back for the long weekend to do the run in and then can drop it back for the full tune the next week. Also need to find some time to get the new tyres fitted and an alignment done, hoping I can pick up the car early in the morning on a weekend or late one night during the week because the tyres will need to be done before driving the car or it'll be the start of a very long defect list if I get pulled over.
    If in doubt power out

I think I need to do a full bolt check.
Wondering why I couldn't get 5th or reverse, discovered that the shifter cable was resting against the selector on the gearbox instead of being on it.
Also discovered that the castle nuts for the tie rod ends have no split pins in them. Got noooo idea how long its been like that...

I don't think the LSD will make much difference at Wakefield with my power level unless its raining, or for excursions....
But the dirt event this weekend should be a different story Now I need to learn not to back off too much otherwise it'll unlock.

Just been for a quick test drive on the high voltage powerline corridor up the road. Came back to find gearbox fluid absolutely pissing out because the short/left driveshaft wasn't locked into the gearbox.
Anyone got any ideas how likely this is to happen by itself? The diff & driveshafts are new.
Or is it that I just didn't get the thing rammed home when I installed it.

And would this kind of thing cause a shuddering in the drivetrain when I was trying to get traction (& the LSD was trying to work)?

I've seen this with some rebuilt driveshafts where they used slightly wrong sized snap ring. Not sure if this applies to (guessing) the Hyundai.

current garage is a PITA to work in, it's cold, exposed to lots of wind and completly open to access for all my lookyloo neighbours when I'm working in there, so don't get much work done. Plus it's impossible to supervise Melody while I'm there. New garage is all enclosed with internal access so it's easy to keep an eye on Melody while I'm working in there.

But best of all... it's on my own property so I can make as much noise (within reason) as I want without threat of Strata intervention.

Trust me when I say that there WILL be more work done on my car once we've moved. In the mean time, I'm aiming to get it back rolling on all 4 wheels at least ASAP.

Yes, for the Hyundai. But Mitsubishi diff & Mitsubishi driveshafts (not that this should make any difference). Going to have to buy another 1L of gearbox oil tomorrow (only bought a 2.5L bottle because it takes 2.15L to fill) & refill the box & try for another quick drive tomorrow evening.
I did notice the other night that the CV boot on that side seemed really compressed, but dismissed it because the driveshafts are at their shortest at the ride height the car is currently.
Did another quick trial up the driveway (it's steep enough that the LSD is needed) and shuddering seems to have gone and leaving a pair of parallel 3m long black marks

Time to call a night though. Almost crashed it into my loan work car when my foot slipped off the brake and somehow ripping the front bar off in the process (it's only held on with cable ties).
All I needed was for it to catch fire somehow and my night would have fully complete of face palming.

I did originally have something about him driving past and looking at it, but changed my mind.

Are your shafts the proper length? They'll pop out under suspension travel if the geometry is wrong. I don't know about shudder but my brother likened the noise to that of a helicopter haha

I've also caused a minor drip by damaging the seal putting in a driveshaft? Not pissing out though.

I hope they're the right length. A lot of work and investigation went into getting them. And they're "custom" built by mixing & matching standard parts. And when the replacement front hubs are fitted, they need to be slightly longer again. The shafts are at their shortest at the current ride height, but there will be events which the suspension height will be increased (was originally set up for about 40mm higher) and the travel is far enough that the shafts actually start rubbing on the LCA mounts...

I had difficulties in actually fitting them in. Needed to hold your tongue at the correct angle to wiggle them past everything. They're significantly beefier than the original shafts, but the new gearbox is also larger (and wider) with the need for a longer spline into the diff itself, but a slightly shorter overall length.
When I pushed the shaft in last night, the leak stopped completely and I can't pull it back out again.

Guess I'll just have to go for another drive this evening and see if I can get it to "pop" out again. Also, going to have to drain the box to see how much oil escaped.
Basically, I think I just stuffed up. Hence the reason for a shakedown before an event this weekend.
