Default AE82 Twin cam speedo stopping at 30

Hey guys, got a twin cam as the daily hack for a while, nice little car, but the weird thing is, when driving the speedo will go up to 30 really fast (probbaly going about 15 when it stops) and then stop dead on 30. Can go all the way up to highway speeds and it still wont move, sits dead on 30.
I can get around quite easy judging by the tacho although everytime i go past a speed camera or a cop i have to slow down a bit more than i probably should

Any ideas? the cable seems to be fine, not sure if i should be looking on the gearbox side or the dash?

    Cheers

    G'day,
Does that mean the odometer only clocks over like you were going 30km/h? Could give you an indication as to what's wrong maybe. I know the speedo on my AE82 rattles a bit, which is just wear on the socket at the back. Not sure on Twin Cam prices, but at the wreckers I could get an instrument panel for about $70 with 100000km instead of 300000...

might just be a loose connection at the back of the cluster, if you have time take the plastics around the cluster out and reach your hand to where the speedo cable is and see if tis come loose or anything.
to remove the plastics to get to speedo cable repve the 2 screws that are underneath the 'top' part of the dash, another 2 on the lower section near the door light, one on either side of the steering wheel, pull the 2 air vents out, you will find another screw on either side, you should be able to take the top part off now, you will see more screws, atm i cant remeber which ones you need to take out to get the the back of the cluster, but if you have even basic knowledge you should be able to work out which ones to take out.
