Default 3T Versus 3T GTE conrods

    Hi all,
Can anyone confirm if 3TC and 3TG conrods are the same? Thinking of buying some Eagle rods from a 3TC for my 3TGTE but want to be sure they fit.

Also do the Eagle conrods have bigger pins than stock units?

    Cheers,
    Simon

    yes! and yes!

    3TC, 3TG, 2TG, all the same.

here are some pictures to compare.
soon, ill have pics of the eagle 3T rods to compare even further!

3TC on the Left, 3TG on the Right.

3TC on the Left, 3TG on the Right.

3TG on the bottom, 3TC on the top.

    3TC rear, 3TG up front.

eagle offer rods with bolts in 3/8" and 5/16"
stock is ~9.15mm so yeah 3/8 is the winner.

Call Jon at High Performance World at Nort Parramatta,NSW
    phone 029-630-2333.
they have the 3/8 bolt versions. (shipped from US)
$495+50from us+postage to you. (being 16$ to WA)

    hope this helps =)

    Setsuna,
    Outstanding info, well done.

Do you know if the main pin size is bigger on the Eagle rods? IF so, what is the best forged piston option with Eagle rods?

    Thanks again,
    Simon

ikm pretture sure the rod length an be and small end sizes are the same but a 3tgtue rod from factory is much beifier than a 3t item.

The stock pin diameter for the 3T (and other T series) is 22mm. This is a stout gudgeon pin.

I have used a few sets of the Wiseco flat tops in different builds. They are 87mm diameter and bring the static comp back pretty close to factory (about 7.8:1) IIRC.

Apart from using the Wiseco, you can get whatever you want made at SPS in Vic for ~$200 more.

Edit/ AFAIK the Eagle rods have stock 22mm gudgeon diameter.

    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

Oh and whats more - I am led to belive that the 3T GTE rod is forged whereas the 3TC rod is not.
As for being beefier (love the word choice - taken to mean bigger physical dimensions) they are not.

    Thanks YelloRolla,
So if the stock 3T GTE rods are forged the question has to be "it is worth gonig for the Eagle rods in the first place"?
Seems many people are going that way but has anyone had issues with the stock 3T GTE conrods?

    Cheers,
    Simon

    No worries Simon.
I use the stock 3T GTE rods in mine - it is spun with fair regularity to 8k 8.5k rpm. The rods are have been balanced and use the ARP rod bolts.
If you are going to prep a set of stock rods then it will add up to like this (prices/set 4) $120 close and hone - $120 to fit the bronze bushes for floating pins - balancing $75 - rod bolts $75odd. Near enough to $400.

A set of Eagles will be balanced, shot peened, correctly sized and be fitted with ARP 2000 series rod bolts - it is unbeatable. I say buy em.

The main factor to remember too is these rods are produced mainly for the American 3T-C market, they don't have access to 3T-GTE rods in any quantity. Even then, the factory 3T-C rods seems to take a fair bit of abuse.

    Ok, good stuff guys.

I think I better buy a set of Eagle rods....

Any suggestions on where to buy a good set of forgies? Eg Wiseco or similar.,,

    Cheers,
    Simon
