JZS161 except very early ones would have immobilizer => more wires to connect. Both are notably heavier than 1JZ
Hi
What are the main differences between the two generations of Aristo front cuts?
I know the later JZS161 is a VVTi and has sequential twin turbos supposedly for better driveability? Can anyone vouch for this? What are they really like to drive in traffic etc?
Does the earlier JZS147 also use sequential twin turbos?
Any other differeneces worth noting?
Andrew

Engine conversion is when you drive a shitbox which costs a whole LEXUS to own
exactly, unless ECU does not have side grey connector. 5 white connectors is ok, 5white+1 grey - immobilized
Toyota immobilizer system is more simple (less units and wires) when there's no smart key option installed in the car (don't know if jzs161's ever had them).

i havnt come across a 161 jz thats been immobilised yet from japan
think before 2000 ish model is fine
i guess power will be close to similar but vvti prob has better mid range
what do u plan to do to motor down the track
if u plan to mod it abit start with old 1j
if u plan to leave it std and dont care about spending abit more for the vvti
then go the 161
I have gs300 and was reading up on doing an Aristo jsz161 swap. Sounds like its pretty straight forward. I would probably not do anything further as it just gets out of hand. Stock 2jzgte vvti with sequential twins sounds like more than enough for me.
There're several gotchas with it here and there. For example use strictly stock intake setup, don't use any maf adapter.
