    Default CAS questions

    Hey guys, i have been trying to wire up my bigport 16v with a bigport 4agze loom. I found a problem with my distributor. I plan on taking rotor button off and cap then use it ias a CAS, but there is only 3 wires coming out of the CAS, and then the 4agze loom needs 4 wires. SO it needs a 2nd position trigger. NOw my problem is i need a 4agze CAS. But no one seems to have one, or wanna part with one. Would i be able to use a small port CAS? Or can i do something to modify the 16v one? Or is there somowhere where i could buy a 4agze CAS?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    From memory the small port cas is the same internally and electrically as the GZE cas. The large port AE82/AE86 is different, and the large port AW11 one is different again.
    I don't have any photos, sorry...

    ZE CAS:
    Code = Colour = Use
    G- = W = Common signal ground
    G1 = G = 1 pulse/camshaft rev
    G2 = B = 1 pulse/camshaft rev
    NE = R = 24 pulses/camshaft rev

    G1 and G2 are offset 180 degrees from each other.

    AE86 and AE92 bigport GE:
    Code = Colour
    G- = W
    G1 = B
    NE = R

    I couldn't find an AE82 or AW11 wiring diagram, but they are listed as using wires G+, G- and NE, with different colours used, so they could well differ.

    So I'd suggest you just forget about the G2 wire in the ZE loom and connect up the other three wires.

    Conceivably you may need to do it the other way round, connecting G1 from the dizzy to G2 in the ZE loom and forgetting about the G1 loom wire, though I'd be suprised.

    Hi,
    The AE86 cas has a 4 sail rotor for the G1 signal - a pulse for every firing event
    (no way of knowing which cylinder is firing).

    The GZE and small port cas uses G1 for no1 ignition event, and G2 for no4 ignition event - no2 and no3 ignition events are determined by the ECU by interpolation of the NE signal (they need to know which cylinder is firing to determine the injection phasing).

    What engine ECU are you using? If it's aftermarket you can use whatever cas the ECU requires, but you should be fine using the existing cas.

    he's using the AE92 bigport 4agze ECU (wasted spark), and as i've told him in a PM, he will need to use either a smallport 4A-GE dissy or a 4A-GZE CAS - for the reasons you've outlined already Mos

    could you somehow fit a second G coil and grind off a few teeth to give the same effect?

    YEs as i have discussed with Karl and oldcorolla's. I am trying to find out if there is anything else i can do if i can't find a gze one. So a 100kw cas should go straight in and wire up?

    takai = CORRECT.

    Please also note that the smallport 4age has a DISTRIBUTOR, and not a "CAS"

    I used a 100kW (smallport 4A-GE) distributor, coil and ignitor on my 4agte with an AE92 MAP sensor 4A-GZE ecu. it worked fine

    Yes, that is exactly how i have it on my car. To prove this originally i swapped a spare smallport dizzy with the CAS on my GZE for a week.

    OK well i got a 4agze CAS, but now the problem is the wires coming out of it are - White, yellow, Red and green. I was lookin at the wiring diagrams and the wires shown are white, black, red and green. Do i just assume that yellow should be connected with black?
