They've been working on this since, I think, 1981? Things happen VERY SLOWLY in government. By the time it DOES ever make it through nationally, fossil fuelled engines will be LONG since forgotten.

Last I checked 4 x 1100 was 4400, so maximum is only 4.4L for a turbo engine in a 1100kg car in NSW.

to anyone who has filled out the vehicle modification form in wa and got a yes
i am putting a 2jz auto into my hilux and want to do it the right way (licenced and engineered) but i am unsure of the correct way to go about this
Do i contact the engineer first for help to fill out the form and advise on what i will need to do the conversion(eg upgraded brakes suspension) or do i fill it out and hope they approve it with standard suspension
if i fill out the vma form does my car now become unregistered so i cant drive it even if conversion has not begun yet??
    thanks

Consult the engineer first if you are unsure what sort of ballpark changes they want with the conversion. I didn't personally, because I was already planning to upgrade the brakes and suspension, stuff they'd ask about.

Next step is to fill out the forms with all the modifications you're planning to do. They will receive it, and sit it on a desk for a few weeks. Then, when they finally have a look at, they'll send back a list of stuff they want the engineer to check. This'll probably be suitability of the brakes/suspension, quality of the conversion etc.

Start the conversion and any ancillary stuff, i.e. brakes and suspension. Take it to the engineer when done. If they're happy, just get them to make sure his report addresses each of the points specifically, and everything will go quicker.

Technically, your car isn't unregistered at all, but if you're driving it around with yet to be legalised mods, it becomes worthy of a yellow sticker. Up until then, it's business as usual, no mods, no worries.

    Hope that helps

Why do you want an RTA approved engineer? We dont have an RTA here.
Do you mean a DPI approved engineer?

Here is the list of all the approved engineers.

And Hamgatan, you'll get stung if you go for cheap. A friend was quoted about $300 to get his engineered. Ended up being over $600 by the end of it.

You can't put a figure on engineering.
It depends on what the DPI requires, how many visits you have to you engineer, if it fails anything first time around... etc etc.

Going on what I paid, $120 per inspection by my engineer (or part there of for quick things), $200 for the brake test, $100 for the brake report, and $150 for the engineering report.

Anybody know anything about an apparent change to the NCOP effective today that does not permit adjustable coilover conversions to be performed on roadgoing cars, regardless of engineers certification?

    Cheers

yeah i was going to say, dont say that! coz im just about ready to hand in the modifications form listing my coilovers!

the form does not specify anything about height adjustable coilovers at all. just changes to front and rear ride height etc..

I am hoping at this stage that it is just misinterpretation of a related change, and not really as generic as "no coilovers" regardless. There is no change to the printed versions of the NCOP at this stage so I find it hard to believe that it could be enforced already, but hey, rego dudes have pulled these sorts of stunts before
