could grab the EB110 3.2L v12 and shave off 4 cylinders, remove the turbos... then you'd have a v8 that'd be legal in a ke30
or you could just get an old alfa v8Originally Posted by Draven

Im putting harnesses in my ae86.
I read through the rules in the NCOP documentation. Most of the rules are identical to the rules in the "Australian Design Rules", the only difference being that they were summarised. (specifically ADR5).
I guess these NCOP's are just summarise the main points listed in the ADR. I did read in the ADR scope that the ADR are reviewed every 10 years. Perhaps this will be rolled out in 2009 (when the next review is due).
If i was to TRUST any documentation, i would stick to the ADR's!!
But thanks for this thread anywayz!
Anyone know the specific rulings on brake upgrades/modifications?
Thats up to the engineer certifying it.

Weird that everyhting else is fairly specified, and brakes are like that.
ok, so you know that you can't use harnesses on the street then, since a harness is not a lap sash belt and is expressly not allowed. this is since sealt belts MUST meet the ADR... which specifies a lap sash belt..Originally Posted by aeeightysix
unless the seat blet ADR has been updated to allow more than a 3 point belt?

the specific thing is that the materials used must meet ADR standards (ie no home made calipers and brake lines must meet spec)Originally Posted by Stefan

the brakes must work
if the materials and workmanship are to the ADR/vague NCOP requirements, and the brakes work, then they should be ok.

i think you can get away with it if you have your normal belt on over the top of the harness!
Ok, thanks. I guess i'll just run it by an engineer, show them the adaptor kit & parts beforehand.
When recently helping my son modify his car, we contacted the RTA directly and got no response.
We did then email the online contact for help (my rta.com),and we recieved a detailed response relateing to our enquiry. Might be a good avenue for local regulations.
Our local boys in blue are keen to enforce all matters of modification regulations!
Exhausts and bov's are the flavour of the month!!
Keep ity legal, keep it on the road..

Better lookin at it than for it!
I always believed it was due to harnesses not being self-retractable, hence could get in the way in the case of an accident and you were trying to get out of the wreck before the fuel-tank firebombs. Normal seatbelts installed in the car have to retract fully and cleanly for the car to pass rego, and you're not allowed to have rips or tears in the seat that could catch on your clothing, so I guess the whole restriction thing is the reason most harnesses are not street legalOriginally Posted by kingmick

but yeah cant wear the harness on street.
ill be looking at adding eng. approved loop mounts at the harness points and clipping the harness in for track days. I dont do santcioned events so for support rather than safety this works for me.
