Default RA23 vs 2JZ-GTE Part 2 (Now with Pics)

Well, here I am with another progress report, still working on fitting up the Mk3 Front and Rear, this is a leadon from an earlier post "RA23 vs 2JZ-GTE" found at http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5785 . I've got the IRS subframe dummy fitted and initial pics to highlight the issues I've so far come across. Interesting though is much of where old and new meet is surprisingly compatible, especially the simple things like intended mount points (rear goes straight through the Chassis Rails, the front looks to be even moreso accurate to the rails) and the RA23 handbrake cable looks to be nearly identical to the Mk3 puller. I've already chucked the old engine and diff, W50 gearbox and RA23 front end is about to help compact the garbage in my wheelie bin. On getting these two subframes fitted, I get to call my engineer to come sign off on it.

I have a bunch of questions to put forward but right now, I don't have the time to be that organised... I guess I'll post a more coherent list when I get my thoughts together...

So when I finally bolt in the 2JZ-GTE and V161, do I get to call this contraption a JZA23...?

I was actually thinking about a very similiar idea the other day with the A70 subframe - keep up the pics, I'm fascinated to see how this goes!

Brilliant effort, it's great to see someone who just jumps in and tries it. So you're planning on getting this thing legal, licensed, and on the road? Good stuff. I'll keep watching, impressed.

That, my friend is a tops effort! That'll look mean with some serious flares. In about a year, I shall be doing the IRS conversion with an S13 rear end (or maybe FD RX7).

JZA23, eh? I think in almost every respect, this will be a JZA70 on a diet! There won't be much 23 left... Any ideas what engineer you'll be using? And this beast in Canberra? I look forward to seeing it in the flesh, probably ridiculously sideways, scaring the crap out of some domestic V8!!
Nikita the RA23 is almost finished .

Good luck mate, it's a big job! Can't wait to see the progress!

Any chance you had all ur old running gear on allclassifieds a few weeks ago? If it was... it was a bargain to whoever got it!

    Yep,

That was me... Wanted to throw it up here but this site has different priorities these days & I was just happy to see it go.

You're right, it was a bargain...

John Wilson is my engineer in the ACT, This is my wife's car but where someone says we have all the advantages, luck, etc. because we live here, I'd beg to differ. My project car up in Townsville is a very similar beast tho it's a Cortina wearing the same Mk3 Supra suspension but like this Celica has also received preliminary go ahead by that state's certified automotive engineer to do it.

...don't suppose you could help with fibreglass front quaters, bonnet and chin spoiler too...?

hmmm... I'm not sure if Phil is making *A23 chin spoilers or just TA22 ones. However, a mate in Belgium is making reproduction flares, ducktail rear spoilers and front spoilers for TA22s. Which if Phil reads this thread, I need to send you an email regarding these items

Anyway, he is moulding these from genuine Toyota items he purchased on Yahoo Japan, so I suspect the ducktail will have Toyota imprinted on it, although not entirely sure of this. However if it is the case it makes it a lot more desirable.

Depending on how big your budget is, carbon fibre panels are made in Japan for early Celicas. As far as I know, my mate doesn't make panels and bonnets, just the race car lookalike parts.
