They use a VR sensor.
G'day All,
I was wondering if anyone could inform as to what the early 4AGE distributors sensor was. I have seen a photo that shows the trigger wheel as a 4 point star. I could not determine whether they were using a Hall Effect or a Variable Reluctance. Also how it was wired up would be very helpful if anyone had that information.
Cheers Tom
They use a VR sensor.
Thanks knightrous,
Now my lt8s microtech configured for the 4AGE expects 3 wires for the crank angle sensor, Any ideas how to connect if a VR sensor generally only has two wires?
Not sure if this helps but some notes from me:
- Three wires are usually for HE sensors. Is there a way from LT8s to read VR sensor instead? I'm guessing the three wires are basically power supply line (basically a switched 12v or 5v), trigger line (your input for LT8s from the sensor) and sensor ground. In the case of VR sensor, the power supply line is not needed.
- Does LT8s have internal VR conditioner? If not, you may need to buy or make one using LM1815N.
This is a great article from MS website on the difference between VR and HE.
If your using a bigport that has the Toyota VAST ignition system (which works a bit like EDIS), you can probably just wire that up to the LT8's HE sensor.
As per the diagram, the VAST igniter provides a nice 12V square wave signal (just like a hall sensor) that you could feed to the Hall sensor input wire on the LT8. You can also drive the coil via the igniter by outputting a 5V signal from the LT8 to the igniters IGT wire (If the LT8 works that way). I did this with my MegaSquirt 2 on my old 4AGE bigport in my AW11.
