    Default RT40 Corona questions

Hey, I'm thinking of getting an RT40 "Shovelnose" Corona as a project car. I have a few questions, as before I go ahead and get one, I want to know how hard it will be to make it the way I like it.

    1) Can an electronic ignition distributor be fitted to a 2R? If so, what cars can it be from?

    2) How easily can Disc brakes be fitted to the front? What about the rear?

    3) Can a standard type 55A Bosch Alternator such as that found on an XF Falcon be fitted?

    4) Are there any limited slip diffs that fit pretty easily?

    5) Will a power steering box from another model fit? Will a 2R accept a power steer pump?

    6) Is there an easy way to fit air conditioning?

    7) What other engines will bolt straight in? I am thinking along the lines of something like a 12R, or a 4R or 5R? Which is best for power? Do the distributors swap between models?

    Cheers, Gab

A search through rides threads and the tech section will help with some of the answers.

    I can answer 2 and 7

    2. Discs from a RT81 can be fitted I believe. They are nearly as rare as an RT40 when it comes to looking for parts at a wreckers.

    7. I think anything up to the 12R will fit with minimal fuss, and some people have put 18R's and 18RG's in theirs without too much stress. I would have though the biggest capacity you could get would be the way to go.

    I can answer a couple
    1. Electronic dizzy from a 4/5k fits just might have to change the gear.
    2. rt81 as above and early ta22 discs with 2 new holes in backing plate.
3.Alternator from 22r motor bolts straight on 50 or55 amps
    4.none that I'm aware of.
    5.none that I'm aware of.
6.a/c was an option in japan.2r wouldn't really have enough power for a/c.
7.4r is easiest with most power, but hard to come by,12r just as easy, warm it up with a cam, exhaust and carby and you'll have enough power to break diffs and gearboxes.
I run a 4r with stage 1 cam electronic ignition, extractors in my rt56 variety bash car, it goes well enough for an old school car with pushrods and carbies.you can still get swaybars and good shocks for them (hq holden front shocks fit)
