It's not slow slow but definitely not as quick as it was between 7-8pm. Talking 10-20 second page load times for this page with no media yet other forums are instant.

The automatic mark as read was set from Database to Cookie based, hence the drop off. And the Quick navigation as it generates a lot of HTML.

These have been turned back on.

    Guys,

for reference, can you make a note of the Number of users on the forums when you notice these slowdowns and post them? There is a pattern of the forums slowing down during the 6pm-10pm peak periods and it appears to be when the number of users gets well into the 300's. I'm looking for some confirmation.

    Cheers

Maybe the place where it is hosted is at it's busiest during those times.. although I am just guessing when I say that, as I assume during the day would be when most users are on.

That is being thrown around, but 65% of the traffic to the site comes from Australia, less than 10% comes from the US (where I assume the server is)

So peak time is when the Aussies get home from work until bedtime with some ovelap with the US.

That being said, Toymods is now run on a dedicated server so the server maxing out is being caused by Toymods in some way shape or form.

In the last few days different aspects of the server have been optimised and this is noticable, but there is still something causing a slow down. I have my theories but I am in no way shape or form an expert.

Whilst the board is getting bigger, it isn't as big as some of the forums I frequent that are some 5 times bigger and one that has 1000's of users on at any one time, with heavy advertising, and they are all quicker than Toymods. Granted I have no clue on their server setups.

It would appear that there are alot of small things contributing to the slow down that are currently being worked through as we can find the time to do so.

    Cheers

suggestion? have a look at your advert providers - this page (as I view it) is only being served adverts from Google & doubleclick and was loading fast.

off the wall suggestion? how would amazon/other cloud hosting compare to your current dedicated server arrangement? If performance is only needed at peak times?
