I've had to turn on AdBlock to get the site to run at a reasonable speed. I know you guys rely on the adverts to support it but page load times were getting way too slow (minutes sometimes).

fwiw; ping times to the toymods server were consistent at ~280ms from an AAPT ADSL1 connection in Toowoomba but it would get stuck before rendering any pages. Safari would sit there saying 'connecting to toymods.org.au' then the page would eventually render down to the first post, display the advert in post#1 and then the rest of the page very slowly arrive. Firefox was doing similar things.

Similar behavior (slow connect, partial render, slow complete render) when viewing the site in the Mobile style.

Club member here - very slow.

Do we need a donation thread so we can upgrade the server? Happy to chuck in if so.

    Hi Guys,

Media Temple are still looking into this for us. We know its having issues and fingers crossed we will find out why soon. If we need to upgrade the server we will but initial investigation suggests the server is lucky to get to 20% CPU and has plenty of memory left so is not likely the issue.

Did some pings myself, of varying sizes and all between 190 - 205ms, so doesn't appear to be a bandwidth issue. Interesting there is allot of hops to get to the server.

It has to be a link on one of the pages or something that is timing out, i'll run a packet capture over my web sess tomorrow from work and see where the delays are. CBF downloading and installing etherreal on my home machine.

Media Temple have gotten back to us with some things to look at so now we are hoping to get in touch with Sam, one of Toymods earliest IT guru's to see if we can get him to implement it all for us.

With the IT role on the board vacant we do struggle a bit at the moment.

    Hi,

We need to do the following...

    1) Turn off any filtering... assuming we have one and see if that makes a diff
    2) Turn off the adverts next to see if that makes a diff

If not then we have a database issue I'd say, and its probably some corruption from the failure we got on 2 July. We need to maybe re-index the SQL database and clean it up. I've seen 30 second response times got to milliseconds after the indexes are cleaned up. I've seen this sort of slowness often at work and its most often poor or corrupt indexing on the database server.

I've made a few changes to the server, let me know if you notice any difference. It's 3AM in SYdney at the moment so a bit hard for me to judge.

    Sam,

Things appear quicker this morning than yesterday,

I have removed any easily turn off-able ads and add-in to see if it made a difference and whilst it did make a difference, the forums as of last night at 10.30pm were still slow.

Sam, I've replied to your email.

    Cheers

Vast improvement. I was on after 2am (Tour De France) and it was better then.

This morning, it is as fast as everything else.

    Thanks!
