    Default Additional forum advertising WTF?

I know there's a thread on this (and it's locked)

I hope there's a lot of $$$ in the additional advertising, as it's insanely annoying; toymods is starting to look like a cheap porn site with flashing slogans everywhere...

The simple fact is, the costs for operating the Forums have increased significantly in the last 12 months.

If you keep tabs on the forum stats down at the bottom of the forum home page you will see that the "most members ever online" record that was last broken in 2005 (during the last major upgrade) has been broken almost on a monthly basis since the beginning of the year. and the ave. number of members & guests online at any give time has almost doubled to the point where the server has crashed a few times in the last 3 months.

With all of the work that has been going on in the back ground the cost to run the forums is now in the multiple of thousands per year, and whilst I can't say what is generated by the advertising on the forums, I can say it goes along way to assisting the Club cover the costs of running the forums.

The Advertising itself is in a trial state, and will be refined on a monthly basis to achieve a balance between effectiveness and user experience, that being said, some form of advertising is going to be used on the forums to keep the forums running and advancing.

    Cheers

Advertising per-se i don't object to, but it shouldn't be inside each post (maybe leave this for forum visitors?) banners for people who are registered seems a bit nicer...

    Hello

My main complaint here is that the position of the ad distorts a post and introduces scrollbars. Not only that, but the ad moves over the text of a post. I am using IE 7 by the way, perhaps this problem does not exist in the other browsers?

    Cheers,
    Brendon

    ie7 is your problem man.

I'm grateful the forums are here, if the ads become more intrusive than these ones, sure, I'll be annoyed, but I come here as I know people on here and I love toyotas - not for aesthetics, as nice as they have been over the years.

They have to accrew enough for nose reconstructions as well as feeding his mime family. The dont talk much so they never need much water for their dry mouths.

    Hi Guys,

The new ads you are seeing are NOT shown to financial Toymods members. So an option to avoid them is simply to join the club. The select few (60 odd financial members) who are financial contribute $$ to keeping Toymods running. Due to the growth of the forums and reduction in financial members additional advertising has become a necessary evil.

It was that or Toymods starts charging a fee to register for the forums and that is not something I personally want to see happen. So annoying they may be but they are required and hey, join the club and you won't have to look at them.

Oh and any person posting up how to block them from showing will be banned.

Thanks guy and I hope you can all understand why we have had to introduce them.

While the new advertising is a touch annoying..

The real winner is the completely online club sign up and payment!

I hadn't realised that you folks had moved away from the print off and mail back system.

So my membership is now in the pipeline and I encourage everybody else to do the same (Took a whole 5min's).

    Cheers
